      Statewide community outbreak of hepatitis declared

      COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) - The Ohio Department of Health has declared a statewide community outbreak of hepatitis A after observing an increase in cases linked to certain risk factors since the beginning of 2018.

      Since January 2018 to February 11, 2019, Ohio has seen 1,657 cases of hepatitis A according to the Ohio Health Department.

      Sixty percent of those people with the virus in Ohio were hospitalized, and five people have died.

      Sixty-eight of the 88 counties in Ohio have had confirmed cases of hepatitis A, and four counties have seen more than 90 cases each...

        Franklin County Jail kitchen worker tests positive for Hepatitis A

        COLUMBUS (WCMH) -- An inmate assigned to work in the kitchen at the Franklin County Jail on Jackson Pike has tested positive for Hepatitis A.

        According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, jail staff observed signs and symptoms consistent with Hepatitis A on March 9 and immediately took precautionary measures. The inmate was placed in medical isolation and all kitchen staff was vaccinated.

        Columbus Public Health was notified after positive test results on March 11...

          Summit County Public Health officials warn of 'alarming increase' in hepatitis A cases

          An “alarming increase” in Summit County hepatitis A cases has prompted health officials to issue an alert reminding residents to get vaccinated.

          According to Summit County Public Health, an outbreak of national hepatitis A cases across 18 states has been on the rise since 2016. As of last month, there have been 15,000 reported cases, 8,500 hospitalizations, and 140 deaths across the country.

          Last year, the Ohio Department of Health issued a warning and declared a statewide outbreak. Since 2018, there have been 2,044 Ohio cases reported, 1,259 hospitalizations and seven deaths.


          Since the start of this year, a total of 32 cases has been reported in Summit County and 19 of those have been connected to the nationwide outbreak...

          COLUMBUS, Ohio -

          The number of hepatitis A cases have grown to 21 in the Valley as the Ohio Department of Health continues monitoring a statewide outbreak of the virus.

          From April 1 to April 7, the number of hepatitis A cases grew from 2,044 to 2,077 across the state.

          Cases increased from 13 to 15 in Trumbull County and from 3 to 5 in Mahoning County. The one case in Columbiana County remained unchanged from the previous week.

          State health officials declared a statewide community outbreak of hepatitis A after observing an increase in cases linked to certain risk factors since the beginning of 2018...
