Outbreak of hand-foot-and-mouth disease sickens 50 at Dartmouth

Dartmouth College says about 50 people on campus have come down with hand-foot-and-mouth disease, a sometimes-painful condition that is most typically seen in children.
Mark Reed, director of Dartmouth College Health Service, said the school has alerted the student, faculty and staff of the outbreak and been in touch with state health officials, who confirmed the illness is prevalent in the Upper Valley and the region.
"We have had some students who were more uncomfortable, and they were able to stay in our infirmary for a few days to get care," he said. "We haven?t had any students need to stay in our infirmary since last week."...
