    University tackles viral outbreak

    Florida State University health officials are working on preventative measures against a viral outbreak of what is known as hand, foot and mouth disease on campus. These measures include cleaning and sanitizing residence halls and advising students to be diligent about handwashing, housekeeping and interpersonal contact.

    The virus, most commonly seen in daycare centers with young children, causes blisters to form on the hands, feet or mouth and accompanies a mild fever and sore throat. More than a dozen cases have been reported on campus.

    ?This illness usually lasts for a few days, and there is no medicine to treat it,? Lesley Sacher, director of the FSU Health and Wellness Center, said in a news release Wednesday...

    Florida State University Hit With At Least 22 Cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

    Florida State University is trying to contain an on-campus outbreak of an illness typically seen at day care.

    A university official told NBC News that as of Friday afternoon, there have been 22 total cases of hand, foot and mouth disease ? a highly contagious virus in which sores develop in the mouth, and a skin rash with blisters appears on the hands and soles of the feet.

    "I'm thinking we've got probably one more little spike [in cases], then hopefully it will have worn itself out," said Lesley Sacher, executive director of university health services at the Tallahassee school...

      Hand, foot and mouth disease has trickled onto UNF?s campus. The reported cases have been enough to cause university health practitioners to take notice, especially after the 15 reported cases at Florida State University (FSU) earlier this month.

      Student Health Services (SHS) director Doreen Perez said three cases of the virus were diagnosed on campus last Thursday...
