    (WWJ/AP) A fourth Michigan resident has been killed by the rare mosquito-borne virus eastern equine encephalitis.

    WWMT-TV reports that 79-year-old Stan Zalner of Battle Creek died Wednesday after contracting EEE, which has been recorded across the southern half of the state.

    Ronna Bagent told the TV station that her father was hospitalized in September with severe flu-like symptoms before doctors were able to confirm the illness through blood tests.

    Nine human cases, including the four people who died, have been confirmed this year in Barry, Berrien, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo and Van Buren counties, according to state health officials...

    A 10th Michigan resident has been confirmed to have the eastern equine encephalitis virus, the state health department said.

    Five more animal cases also were confirmed in horses in Jackson, Kent and Tuscola counties, officials said Tuesday.

    This year, 15 Michigan counties have reported cases of EEE. The virus has infected 10 Michigan residents (one in Barry, two in Berrien, one in Calhoun, two in Cass, three in Kalamazoo, and one Van Buren counties) leading to four fatalities, the agency said.

    Aerial insecticide spraying in 14 counties to combat the virus spread by mosquitoes has been completed, the state health department said...

      A fifth death due to Eastern Equine Encephalitis has been confirmed in a Cass County resident and an additional horse has been diagnosed with the disease in Allegan County, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announced Monday.

      Although frost is predicted in parts of the state tonight, MDHHS said in a release urges residents to continue taking precautions against mosquitoes...

        (WXYZ) — A sixth person in Michigan has died due to Eastern Equine Encephalitis, state health officials announced on Monday.

        The victim was a Berrien County resident who was previously diagnosed with the virus.

        So far, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services said that 10 people have been diagnosed with EEE.

        Cases of confirmed EEE were in Barry, Berrien, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo and Van Buren counties...
