    Massachusetts has first human EEE case in 6 years; 9 communities at critical risk

    A human case of Eastern equine encephalitis has been confirmed in Massachusetts, the first in the state in six years, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

    The DPH said laboratory testing confirmed the EEE virus infection in a man older than 60 from southern Plymouth County. State health officials did not indicate which community the man resides in.

    This is the first human case of EEE in Massachusetts since 2013.

    As a result, state health officials raised the risk level to critical in nine southeastern Massachusetts communities on Saturday.

    The communities on the critical risk list are Carver, Lakeville, Marion, Middleborough, Rochester and Wareham in Plymouth County and Acushnet, Freetown and New Bedford in Bristol County...

    BOSTON ? A second human case of Eastern equine encephalitis has been confirmed in Massachusetts, according to the state?s Department of Public Health.

    The department said Friday afternoon that a man between the ages of 19 and 30 from eastern Worcester County was diagnosed with EEE. The Grafton Board of Health confirmed that the man who tested positive is a resident of the town, WCVB-TV reported.

    A young goat in Bristol County also tested positive for the disease, raising the risk to critical in three additional communities within the county, the DPH said. They are Easton, Norton and Raynham. Most of SouthCoast is already listed at the critical level, DPH has said.

    Last weekend, a Rochester man in his 60s was diagnosed with the first human case in the state in six years. His family said Thursday night he remains in a coma...

      A third human case of eastern equine encephalitis has been diagnosed in a Massachusetts man, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health said.

      The patient is a man over the age of 60 who was exposed to the virus in northern Franklin County, health officials said.

      The risk level in two communities in Franklin County has been raised to critical as a result.

      In addition, one horse from Mendon and one horse from Uxbridge have also tested positive for the EEE virus, raising the risk level to critical in two additional communities in Worcester County, health officials said.

      The four communities now at critical risk are Heath and Colrain in Franklin County, and Mendon and Uxbridge in Worcester County...

        FAIRHAVEN, MA (WLNE): A Fairhaven woman is said to have died after contracting the EEE virus, according to a social media post.

        Laurie Sylvia's daughter said her mom passed away on Saturday afternoon.

        This comes after a facebook post from the Teamer's Local 59 page.

        "It pains us to inform you that Laurie Sylvia, the wife of Teamsters Local 59 President Robert Sylvia, Jr has been stricken with the EEE Virus," the post said...
