    Dengue is spreading in various parts of country including Kathmandu

    Amid soaring temperatures, dengue cases are being reported in various parts of the country. Officials at the Ministry of Health and Population said several local units including those in the Kathmandu Valley have reported dengue infections.

    “We have alerted local units that have reported dengue cases to take preventive measures,” said Dr Gokarna Dahal, chief of the Vector Control Section at the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division. “Local units can launch awareness drives to alert the public about the risks.”...

    Over 11,000 dengue cases reported in Bagmati

    BAGMATI, May 5: Cases of dengue fever are prevalent in Bagmati Province. In the past nine months, over 11,999 cases of dengue have been confirmed in the province.

    As of now a total of 11,409 dengue cases have been diagnosed since the beginning of the current fiscal year 2080/81 BS which commenced on July 17 2023, according to the Health Directorate, Bagmati Province.

    Of this figure, the highest cases, 3,501, are reported from Dhading and the lowest two from Rasuwa, the Directorate’s focal person Uttam Prasad Pyakurel said.

    In this period, 3,000 cases were reported in Kathmandu, followed by 1,708 in Chitwan, 857 in Makwanpur, 494 in Bhaktapur, 167 in Kavrepalanchowk, 81 in Nuwakot, 79 in Dolakha, 32 in Sindhupalchowk, 27 in Ramechhap and 23 in Sindhuli.

    In the current fiscal, one person succumbed to dengue in Makwanpur.​..

      Dengue infection surges in 72 districts across Nepal, Kathmandu at high risk

      KATHMANDU, June 20: Cases of dengue infection have been rising rapidly in the Kathmandu Valley and several other districts in Nepal. Since the start of 2024, 1,175 dengue cases have been confirmed, with infections reported in 72 districts. However, Mugu, Dolpa, Humla, Jumla, and Mustang districts remain unaffected.

      Data from the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) reveals that Bagmati Province has the highest infection rate with 403 reported cases, followed by Koshi with 277, Gandaki with 187, Lumbini with 139, Sudurpaschim with 118, Madhesh with 34, and Kanali with 17. Kathmandu district has reported the most cases with 122, followed by Jhapa (111), Chitwan (74), Makwanpur (58), and Tanahun (46).

      Experts note that dengue is spreading faster this year compared to last year, with peak transmission months yet to come. Last year, dengue affected all 77 districts, infecting over 52,000 people and causing 20 deaths.

      Previously rare in the Kathmandu Valley, mosquito-borne diseases like dengue are now prevalent even in the hill and mountain districts. Factors contributing to this spread include rising temperatures, population density, unplanned urbanization, climate change, prolonged droughts, and mosquitoes' increasing ability to survive at lower temperatures.​..

        ​KATHMANDU, Aug 1: Nepal has recorded more than 2,000 cases of dengue across the country.

        Chief of Vector Control Disease at the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under the Health Ministry, Dr Gokarna Prasad Dahal said 2,061 people of 73 districts were found infected with dengue.

        Dr Dahal shared that the ministry has projected that cases of dengue disease might increase as the weather might be favorable for reproduction of mosquitoes as much rainfall has been predicted this year.​..

          KATHMANDU: The number of dengue and cholera cases in Nepal has seen a significant rise in recent weeks, according to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under the Ministry of Health and Population.

          As of last Friday, the total number of dengue cases reached 3,084, with 722 new cases reported in just the past four days.

          The mosquito-borne infection has spread across the country, with the exception of Mustang, Dolpa, Jumla, and Humla districts, according to Dr. Gokarna Prasad Dahal, Chief of the NTD and Vector Borne Disease Control Section.

          Tanahu district has recorded the highest number of dengue cases, with 583 infections, followed by 307 cases in Kathmandu, 166 in Kaski, and 135 in Jhapa district...

          ​...Cholera cases are also on the rise, with 47 cases detected across the country to date.

          Dr. Dahal reported that cholera cases have been confirmed in Lalitpur, Kathmandu, Pyuthan, Kailali, and Rupandehi districts, with Lalitpur recording the highest number of cases (34) and Rupandehi the lowest (1).​

            Amid heavy rainfall in many places across the country, Anbukhaireni Rural Municipality of Tanahun district has been hit by a massive dengue outbreak, with over 900 positive cases in a single ward within a month.

            Local health facilities are struggling to cope with the overwhelming number of seriously ill patients.

            “Over 900 people from ward 3 have tested positive for dengue within a month,” Agam Raj Upadhyaya, health coordinator of the rural municipality, told the Post over the phone from Anbukhaireni. “Forty-five patients are currently being treated on just 15 beds at Anbukhaireni Hospital. The hospital floors and corridors are packed with infected people.”

            Health officials warn that the actual number of dengue cases could be higher, as people having mild symptoms are not getting tested and are resting at home...

              Dengue cases surpass 6,000, over 600 reported in Kathmandu Valley

              Dengue infections have surpassed 6,000 cases nationwide, according to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).

              The mosquito-borne infection has been detected in all districts except Humla and Mustang, said Dr. Gokarna Prasad Dahal, Chief of Vector-Borne Disease Control at the Division.

              Dr. Dahal reported that a total of 6,347 dengue cases have been confirmed across the country, with three fatalities attributed to the infection so far. Among the seven provinces, Gandaki Province has recorded the highest number of cases, with 2,954, while Karnali Province has the lowest, with 93 cases...

                Chitwan sees rise in Dengue and Scrub Typhus cases

                KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 25

                The cases of dengue and scrub typhus have risen significantly since mid-July.

                In the current fiscal year, which began on July 16, hospitals in Chitwan have reported 1,492 positive cases of dengue. Of these, 1,155 cases are from within the district, while 337 are from outside.

                Dinesh Rupakheti, Chief of the Public Health Office in Chitwan, noted that over the nearly two and a half months of this fiscal year, 1,492 cases were detected from 5,113 tests. The highest number of infections comes from Bharatpur Metropolis, with 462 cases, including two deaths.​..

                  KATHMANDU, Oct 5: The number of dengue infections across the country has exceeded 14,000.

                  According to Dr Gokarna Prasad Dahal, head of the Vector Borne Disease Division at the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), dengue infections have been reported in 14,975 people across the country.

                  He stated that the recent rainfall has led to an increase in dengue infections. So far, dengue has been reported in all districts except Humla. There have been seven fatalities due to dengue infection to date.​...

                    Death toll from dengue reaches seven in Gandaki

                    GANDAKI, Oct 9: Seven people including three men and four women have so far lost their lives due to dengue infection in Gandaki province.

                    The Ministry of Health shared that a 48-year-old man of Tanahun had breathed his last on July 25 due to dengue infection.

                    Since then, dengue infection claimed lives of a 40-year-old man from Kaski on August 6, a 52-year-old woman from Kaski on August 15 and a 61-year-old man from Myagdi on September 4.

                    According to the health ministry data, three women at their 81, 70 and 75 years died in Kaski in September and October as a result of dengue infection.​..

                      19,599 dengue cases reported throughout country

                      Kathmandu, Oct 16: Dengue is spreading rapidly with the number of infected people reaching 19,599 throughout the country, according to the latest data of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD).

                      EDCD said nine people have died of the disease so far and it has spread in 76 districts of the country. Dengue has spread the most in Kathmandu with 3,103 cases, followed by Kaski with 2,847 vases, Tanahu with 2,107 cases and Parbat with 1,562 cases.

                      Similarly, Chitwan reports 971 cases, Lalitpur 827 cases, Gorkha 588 cases, Baglung 610 cases, Bhaktapur 355 cases and Syangja 335 cases.
                      Dr Sher Bahadur Pun, Research Unit Coordinator at the Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital Teku, said that the risk of dengue rises with the beginning of the post-monsoon period.​..

                          Three types of dengue viruses active in Nepal

                          KATHMANDU, Oct 31: The Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases Control Division has confirmed that three types of dengue viruses - serotype-1, serotype-2 and serotype-3 are active in Nepal.

                          Chief of the Division's Vector Borne Disease Control Section, Dr Gokarna Prasad Dahal, confirmed that DV-1, -2, and -3 were reported in the country.

                          "In the past, serotype-1, serotype-2, serotype-3 and serotype-4 were active. Based on the study of the genes of the virus, three types of them have been found to be active now," Dr Dahal said.​..
