The Epidemiology Department of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), reported that 1,521 confirmed cases of dengue are reported and 3 deaths remain.

Deaths are reported in San Miguelito, East Panama and in the province of Col?n.

The regions that present a high rate of dengue infestation are Panama Este with 300 cases, Panam? Metro with 258, Panam? Norte with 242, Panam? Oeste with 153 and the district of San Miguelito with 130 cases.

The townships with the highest incidence in the regions most affected by dengue are Chepo, Pacora, Las Garzas, Arraij?n (head) and Belisario Porras.

The Guna Yala region registers one case, in the province of Bocas del Toro seven cases and the province of Darien 27 cases. These are the regions of the country with the fewest cases. The Minsa explained that in the Ng?be Bugl? region no case is reported.

The Department of Epidemiology of the Minsa detailed that of the registered cases 1,376 are without alarm signs and 137 with alarm signs, while eight are serious.

The Minsa registers three types of levels of dengue in the country; the first without warning signs, which are those that appear mildly; the second with warning signs which can evolve into severe forms presenting hemorrhagic manifestations and the last, the least frequent, in people who have already suffered from dengue due to a serotype. At this last level, the patient requires more attention and even in some cases reaches intensive care units.

Health authorities reiterate to the population the importance of eliminating mosquito breeding sites, which is the main weapon against this disease, in the same way they urge local authorities to organize themselves for cleaning and awareness actions against dengue. It is recalled that misting only kills the adult mosquito, but hatcheries are still alive.
