Jalisco reports 102 cases of dengue during the first two months of 2020
Jalisco reported 102 cases of dengue, of which 46 percent are classified as serious, 22 percent as alarming while the rest are non-dangerous cases.

    Guadalajara / 29.02.2020 17:14:18

At the end of the first two months of the year Jalisco reported 102 cases of dengue, of which 46 percent are classified as serious, 22 percent as alarming while the rest are non-hazardous cases, said the director of Epidemiological Surveillance and Intelligence of the Secretary of Health of the state, Leandro Hern?ndez Barrios.

"It is increasing the presence of severe dengue, we also bring presence of serotype 2 which was the one that last year hit us by 76 percent, this year we have it by 98 percent in the presence of all the cases we have been watching, "said the official.

During the first two months of 2019, the entity registered 84 cases of dengue, while in the same period of 2018 they were 16. Currently the state occupies the fifth place by number of confirmed cases and the eleventh in relation to the incidence rate .

The municipalities with the highest number of cases are Puerto Vallarta with 16, Tlaquepaque with 15, Tomatl?n with 13, Guadalajara with nine and Cihuatl?n with eight.

"Most of the cases are settled in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, we would be talking between Tlaquepaque, Guadalajara, Tonal? although we also have in Puerto Vallarta, Sayula, Ciudad Guzm?n, it is more or less the movement we have, the presence of cases now what we have in Tlaquepaque, "said Hern?ndez Barrios.

Currently there are 866 vectors for the disinfection and cleaning of areas where there is an incidence of dengue, also the Patio Clean program staff will be added to work in the next months in prevention, which adds a total of approximately one thousand workers.

According to Leandro Hern?ndez, this year will be more committed to prevention than fumigation.

"If we become aware and eliminate the hatcheries we will practically have no justification to fumigate because we would not have flies, the problem is how do we convince ourselves that we have to eliminate the hatcheries," he said.

Jalisco has 14,500 ovitrampas, which monitor and control the dengue mosquito, all are in function and are read once a week, the SSJ official said. He also informed that the incidents and results of the last five years are analyzed to date, as there are plans to increase the placement of more loans.

Dengue reaches 15 municipalities in Jalisco
Dengue infections in the state of Jalisco had a growth of 24.3 percent from July 13 to August 3
By Reforma Agency and Fernanda Carapia August 08, 2020

Guadalajara, Jalisco .- Like humidity, dengue is "penetrating" in Jalisco. In the last month, the mosquito that transmits the disease infected 15 Municipalities of Jalisco, mainly in the southern region and coast of the State.

According to information from the Jalisco Health Secretariat (SSJ), on July 13 cases of dengue had been detected in 49 territorial demarcations, while by August 3 there were already 64. In this same period, the number of infections had a growth of 24.3 percent, going from a thousand 78 to a thousand 340.

The contagion curve in Jalisco is on the rise; average weekly growth is 8 percent.

The Federal Ministry of Health, in its epidemiological report, warned that the trend of infections in Jalisco is in an area of risk of becoming an epidemic that would coincide with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Among the infections reported for Jalisco, the increase in serious cases stands out, registering a growth of 25 percent in the last four weeks.

According to data from the SSJ, on July 13 there were 52 cases of severe dengue, while on August 3 there were already 65.

Experts have pointed out that this is due to the fact that serotype 2 of the disease is circulating in the State, which is the most aggressive of the four in Mexico.

In addition, when a person who was infected in the past, only acquires immunity for the serotype that affected him and for a limited time, because in a "relapse" the disease can come with more force.

The Municipalities with the highest incidence of cases are Zapotitl?n de Vadillo, Jocotepec, Techaluta, San Gabriel and Acatl?n de Ju?rez.

Of these territories, Jocotepec is striking, where dengue has grown significantly. Not only is it in the second place of incidence with a rate of 409 infections per 100,000 inhabitants, but it is also the Municipality that presents the highest number of cases, with 196.

Recently, the Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) invited the population to protect themselves from the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito that transmits dengue disease.

In addition, those who have already contracted and healed it, the institution urged them to maintain precautions, since reinfections due to Dengue are presented in a more serious way, informed the Director General, Luis Antonio Ram?rez Pineda.

For his part, the epidemiologist specialist of the Health Regulations Directorate, Oscar Flores Mungu?a, explained that Dengue serotypes 1, 2, 3 and 4 circulate in Mexico. The most severe cases are related to types 2 and 3, where they are find Dengue hemorrhagic fever.

However, he warned, after a while of their recovery, people can be reinfected with one of the other three remaining serotypes and are at high risk of presenting a more serious form of the disease, so it is very important to maintain preventive care.

Last Friday, July 31, the Jalisco Health Secretariat (SSJ) confirmed the death of a person who suffered from coronavirus and dengue diseases at the same time; It was a 44-year-old man, a neighbor of El Salto, who was hospitalized with a diagnosis of severe dengue and COVID-19. This patient also suffered from diabetes.

As part of the monitoring carried out by the State Epidemiological Surveillance System, an intentional search for cases was carried out, identifying at that time, 636 suspected infections for the diagnosis of dengue and COVID-19.

Of the total, only five positive patients were detected in laboratory tests for both diseases, among which is the registered death "thus confirming dengue and COVID-19 coinfection," the document said.
