TEGUCIGALPA .- Two more deaths were certified yesterday in the capital for dengue hemorrhagic fever, although the disease is going down.

Up to Epidemiological Week No. 29, 20 deaths were recorded in health centers of the capital, reported in this geographical map.
Of the total cases recorded in the DC metropolitan area with 18.297, which represents 54 percent of all cases nationwide. Olancho followed with 3.222, which is 10 percent and the metropolitan area of San Pedro Sula to 2.672, which is 8 percent.

However, health authorities believe the epidemic begins to sag in its intensity, since in the 150 Hospital School of income they reported last week, this only reported 55.

The Head of Epidemiological Surveillance of the Ministry of Health, Thomas Guevara, said that "in this epidemiological week 29, confirmed two new deaths, for a total of 33 deaths from dengue hemorrhagic fever."

"The decline of patients admitted with suspected dengue the first medical center of the country because the population is beginning to integrate this campaign of the Ministry of Health following that have realized that dengue is a disease that can result in death, "said Guevara.

Guevara abounded that several cases under investigation to be submitted to the National Commission on Certification of Dengue (NCCD) and will be reported in subsequent weeks.

However, the expert in pathology and medicine, is of the opinion that the deaths caused by epidemics, are confirmed by epidemiological linkage, ie if the characteristics of other deaths, in this case the dengue.

Victims of dengue are transferred daily from the Boards of Medicine to the hospital morgue.
These deaths should always be submitted to the NDCC also because patients were cared for by the hemorrhagic variant, also many other illnesses suffered joined them today.

What is recommended is that medical personnel who care for patients of dengue in the file attached to all laboratory studies and clinical management that gave the patient before his death, because ultimately the clinical record is set out the cause of death certification.

It has been known that the first deaths from dengue to start the year, deducted a dengue cases admitted to hospitals, however, suffered from other diseases and would have dismissed as dengue, so they may reconsider these cases.

Despite constant warnings about the epidemic prevention of dengue, most Hondurans continue to show apathy toward the vector and unfortunately seek medical help only when the damage is almost irreversible or fatal.

Proof of this is that in recent days, many patients arrive in serious condition and even shock at Hospital Escuela in the capital.

The same situation is reported in the pediatric ward, where dozens of children are assisted permanently. Mark Miller, director of the Hospital School, said after a meeting with the health authorities took the decision to hire six more doctors to treat patients with dengue. "There are 22 general practitioners who recruited, eight professional nurses and 17 nursing assistants," he said. On weekends, according to the official increase in both emergency patients, so it has been necessary to hire more staff.

                        Influenza A H1N1 resurfaces

In case of dengue was not enough, Tito Alvarado, infectious diseases, says that in private hospitals has been detected a slight resurgence in patients with influenza A H1N1. The cases have been confirmed. "There are a decreased sense of dengue, but if rainfall conditions continue, the epidemic will increase, and the resurgence of other diseases," said Alvarado.

                        Human rights

The National Human Rights Commissioner Ramon Custodio, questioned whether "this year, there were failures in handling the epidemic by health authorities to control the spread of the mosquito Aedes aegypti.

"We did not know the spread of vector control and that we should leave the lesson for next year," he said.

According to the ombudsman, for any attack of fever, of which one has no explanation, it is advisable to seek assistance immediately.
