    A nationwide alert has gone up about a big rise in Dengue cases across the country.

    Hospitals nationwide are being ordered to set up emergency facilities to deal with the worrying rise in cases of dengue fever since the start of 2019.

    Workpoint News reports that, in January alone, there were four times as many cases of the disease compared to January 2018 in Thailand...

    ..From January 1-March 5 this year there were 9,044 cases and seven deaths associated with Dengue fever. In January there was 5,555 cases ? four times the 2018 figures...

    Residents of upper South warned dengue could spread

    Residents of provinces in the upper South have been warned that dengue could spread now that rains have arrived.

    Doctor Sirilak Thaicharoen, director of Nakhon Si Thammarat?s 11th Disease Control Office, said 1,165 people in seven upper South provinces had contracted dengue virus this year resulting in one death so far.

    She said most of the dengue patients were children between the ages of 10 and 14, though those aged 5 to 9 years old are the second-biggest age group affected.

    Nakhon Si Thammarat has the largest number of dengue patients, followed by Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, Ranong, Surat Thani and Chumphon, Sirilak added.

    She said the number of patients is expected to rise as rain has begun falling in some southern provinces.

    Nationwide, 12,545 people have caught the virus this year resulting in 14 deaths, she said...

      27 people have died from dengue fever in Thailand so far this year. That?s the highest fatality rate, year on year, in the past five years.

      The Public Health Ministry deputy permanent secretary Dr Supakit Sirilak has reacted by sending an urgent letter to related agencies to prepare measures to prevent more dengue fever deaths.

      It?s estimated there will be about 10,000 new cases of dengue fever a month or about 95,000 dengue fever patients nationwide for the whole of 2019, according to Supakit in the letter attached with a guideline for patients.

      According to the Bureau of Epidemiology, 18,000 people were infected with the dengue fever virus from January 1 to May 1 this year, and 27 of them, including 12 children, had died...

        BANGKOK ? More than 20,000 people in Thailand have been infected with dengue fever since January, 25 of whom have died, disease control officials said.

        Suwanchai Watthanayingcharoenchai, disease control department chief, said the number of infections has doubled compared to the same period in 2018.

        In Bangkok alone, nearly 900 cases of dengue and one mortality were reported from January to March, according to the Bangkok Health Department.

                          Si Sa Ket province declares dengue emergency

                          The northeastern province of Si Sa Ket, on the Cambodian border, has declared that the prevention and control of dengue fever required urgent attention throughout its area. Local health officials say they are now especially concerned about what will happen during the last three months of the annual wet season.

                          Governor Weerasak Wichitsaengsi signed a Memorandum of Understanding for dengue fever prevention and control along with the provincial public health chief Dr Worawuth Cheunta, all district chiefs and the Si Sa Ket Hospital.

                          At a Provincial Hall meeting it was announced that seven people had died from dengue so far in 2019 and that 1,664 people were now suffering from the mosquito-borne disease, making Si Sa Ket the country?s 12th worst-hit province.

                          They agreed the situation had worsened drastically, saying the monthly figures for those hospitalised had exploded from 81 cases in January to 618 in June and 457 in July...
