    Dengue cases hit 60,000

    MANILA, Philippines ? The number of dengue cases nationwide increased to 61,406 from Jan. 1 to April 6, according to the Department of Health.

    The DOH said the figures are more than double than those recorded during the same period last year.

    At least 1,232 dengue cases were recorded from March 31 to April 6 alone...

    DENGUE cases in Davao City doubled in the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period in 2018.

    From January to March 2019, the City Health Office (CHO) recorded 1,681 cases, from the 572 cases recorded in the same quarter in 2018.

    This year, Toril District has the most number of cases with 240, followed by Buhangin District with 235, Talomo South District with 185, Talomo Central District with 175, and Agdao District with 122 cases.

    Last year, Buhangin had the most number of dengue cases with 81, followed by Talomo North with 71 cases.

    Meanwhile, as of April 13, there have already been 1,762 recorded cases in Davao City.

    CHO technical division chief Doctor Julinda Acosta said the increasing number of cases is very alarming...

    THE Department Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD)-6 reported that 33 persons in Western Visayas have died of dengue so far.

    In terms of cases, Maria Lourdes Monegro, DOH-6 Entomologist III, said they have recorded 5,527 dengue cases from January 1 to April 6, 2019.

    ?Negros Occidental remained as the province with highest recorded number of dengue cases at 1,863 with 15 deaths, followed by Iloilo province (1, 043) with five deaths, Aklan (784) with four deaths, Capiz (713) with four deaths, Iloilo City (454) with four deaths, Bacolod City (377) with one death, Antique (110), and Guimaras (104),? Monegro reported.

    Monegro said there is clustering of cases in 82 barangays in the region, with Guimaras posting the highest increase in cases and Aklan with the highest attack rate...

    Dengue kills 227 in first quarter

    The Department of Health said 227 people died of dengue from January to March this year.

    The department recorded close to 56,000 dengue cases during the period.

    Data from the DoH?s epidemiology bureau showed that from January 1 to March 30, there were 55,976 cases of the avoidable mosquito-borne illness. This is higher than the 31,247 cases with 168 fatalities reported in the same period last year.

    From March 24 to 30 alone, 3,381 cases were reported to the dengue surveillance unit of the department...

    DOH expects 2019 as ?big dengue year?; cautions public

    MANILA ? The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday reminded the public anew to take precautionary measures to avoid contracting dengue amid the increase of the cases of the disease nationwide.

    ?We?re preparing because we?re expecting 2019 to be a big dengue year. The way dengue behaves is that you get one or two years of low cases and on the third year, tumataas ([it] rises),? Health Undersecretary Enrique Domingo said in a television interview.

    The DOH Epidemiology Bureau (EB) has reported 48,634 dengue cases in the first quarter of 2019 with 184 deaths.

    The figure showed significant increase from 23,328 cases with 150 deaths for the same period last year.

    The DOH EB said Central Visayas has the highest number of cases this year with 5,421 followed by Metro Manila with 4,855 cases, Calabarzon with 4,851 cases, Caraga Region with 4,570 cases and Central Luzon with 4,009 cases.

    Domingo said the cases are expected to rise in June which is the start of the rainy season.

    However, he warned the public against possible attack of dengue-carrying mosquitoes in the day during summer time...

    FROM January 1 to March 16, 2019, dengue has claimed the lives of 26 people in Western Visayas region, according to the Department Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD)-6.

    Dr. Jessie Glen Alonsabe, medical specialist III of DOH-6, said they have recorded 4,347 dengue cases in the region so far.

    According to Alonsabe, the number is 142 percent higher compared to 1,794 cases and 11 deaths recorded in the same period in 2018...

    Iloilo dengue cases climb to 717 but Guimbal spared

    Dengue cases all over the province already reached 717 as of March 16, with four deaths. This is over 300 percent higher than the cases recorded last year (171 but with no deaths) from Jan. 1 to March 16, said Trabado.

    DOH alarmed over rising dengue cases in Zambo Peninsula

    ZAMBOANGA CITY ? The Department of Health (DOH) 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) has expressed alarm over the high number of cases of dengue in the region, amounting to 1,850 cases from January to March 14.

    Dr. Dennis Dacayanan, chief of DOH-9 Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU), noted that the figure is higher than the 946 cases registered in the same period in 2018.

    Dacayanan said this city has the highest number of cases at 802, followed by Zamboanga del Norte with 502; Zamboanga del Sur, 251; Zamboanga Sibugay, 193; and Isabela City, 102.

    He said they have established dengue fast lanes in hospitals to easily detect dengue cases, equipped with kits for nonstructural protein 1 (NS1) antigen tests, a routine and rapid diagnostic test for dengue virus infection...

    Dengue cases up by 81% in ZamPen

    ZAMBOANGA CITY, March 15 (PIA) - - Dengue fever cases in the Zamboanga Peninsula Region reached 1,743 from January 1 to March 7, 2019 which is 81 percent higher as compared to the same period last year.

    According to the Disease Surveillance Update of the Department of Health (DOH) 9, the total 1,743 Dengue cases were gathered from the different sentinel hospitals in the Zamboanga Peninsula Region.
    DOH reported dengue cases in Zamboanga City is recorded at 719 as compared to 230 cases during same period last year, a rise of 213%. Zamboanga Del Norte recorded 499 cases as compared to 155 cases same period last year, a whooping 222% increase. The said province was pegged to have the highest percent change of dengue fever cases compared to same period of 2018. Zamboanga Sibugay recorded 175 dengue cases; Isabela City , Basilan, 99 cases; and Zamboanga Del Sur with 251.
    In Zamboanga City, top ten barangays with dengue cases include Calarian/Southcom with 42 cases, followed by Tumaga, with 41; Pasonanca, 37; Tetuan/Sta Cruz, 34; Ayala, 31; San Roque , 30; Talon Talon/ Loop, 26; Baliwasan with 25 cases; Sta Maria, 25; and Mampang, with 22 dengue cases recorded.
    DOH calls on everyone to become prime movers in controlling mosquito population and avoiding any possible dengue deaths in the community. The health department reminded the public to religiously practice the Enhanced 4-S campaign against dengue which is Search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites; secure Self-protection measures like wearing long pants, long sleeved shirts and daily use of mosquito repellent; Seek early consultation and Support, and fogging only in hotspot areas where increase in cases is registered for two consecutive weeks to prevent an impending outbreak.
    It can be recalled, Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III emphasized, ?the first step to prevent dengue is within our homes. It is important to remove any space or container that can hold unnecessary stagnant water which may become breeding sites of mosquitoes.?

    MANILA, Philippines ? As the measles outbreaks in various regions in the country remain unabated, the Department of Health (DOH) reported that dengue cases nationwide have soared to over 36,000.

    The DOH also reported that dengue cases in Cagayan Valley, Mimaropa, Cordillera Administrative Region and Caraga exceeded the epidemic threshold, while prevalence in Bicol, Western Visayas, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and Davao region exceeded the alert threshold.
