    Dengue cases in Bacolod City up by 121%

    BACOLOD CITY -- Cases of dengue fever in Bacolod City increased by almost 121 percent in the first five weeks of 2019, City Health Office (CHO) records showed.

    Dr. Grace Tan, head of CHO Environment Sanitation Division, said on Monday that from January 1 to February 5, they have recorded a total of 201 cases, including one death, compared to only 91 during the same period last year...

    Dengue outbreak declared in Kawayan, Biliran

    TACLOBAN CITY – The local government of Kawayan town in Biliran has declared a dengue outbreak.

    According to the Executive Order No. 3 issued by Kawayan Mayor Rodolfo Espina Jr., the municipality has recorded 81 dengue cases as of Wednesday afternoon.

    Of the total number of cases, 56 recovered, 7 were admitted in Biliran Provincial Hospital, 15 confined at the Rural Health Unit, 1 is under observation, 1 refused admission, and 1 reported death.

      ILOILO – Less than two months into 2019, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) already recorded 396 cases of dengue fever, including three deaths. These covered the period from Jan. 1 to Feb. 14 – a 281 percent surge from last year’s 104 cases recorded within the same period.

      Provincial health officer Dr. Patricia Grace Trabado warned of a further increase in cases in the months to come, citing a trend that PHO had established using past records – every three years the province experiences a surge in dengue.

        DOH 7: Dengue fever has killed 28 in Central Visayas since January this year

        CEBU CITY, Philippines — At least 28 persons have died of complications arising from the mosquito-borne dengue fever in Central Visayas since January this year, or quadruple the number of deaths recorded over the same period last year.

        The regional epidemiology and surveillance unit (Resu) of the Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-7) reported that from January 1 to February 16, 2019, they have recorded 3,681 dengue cases with 28 deaths in the region, or a whopping 233 percent rise when compared to the 1,105 cases with 5 deaths recorded over the same period last year.

        The DOH-7 has recommended the declaration of dengue outbreak in Lapu-Lapu City and Sibonga town in Cebu province; the town of Lazi in Siquijor; and Tagbilaran City and the towns of Loon, Trinidad, Cortes, Clarin and Dauis in Bohol...

            Dengue claims 5 lives in Soccsksargen

            KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Dengue has claimed the lives of five people, three of them from North Cotabato province, since January 1, the regional health office said Friday.

            Jenny Panizales Ventura, Department of Health (DOH) 12 (Soccsksargen) focal person on measles eradication, said the provinces of Sarangani and South Cotabato registered one fatality each.

            From January 1 to February 28, the DOH-12 Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) listed 2,332 dengue cases across the region.

            “This is 191 percent higher compared to the same period last year,” Ventura said, noting that the youngest dengue patient recorded in the region was a three-month-old while the oldest was 96 years old...

                MANILA, Philippines — As the measles outbreaks in various regions in the country remain unabated, the Department of Health (DOH) reported that dengue cases nationwide have soared to over 36,000.

                The DOH also reported that dengue cases in Cagayan Valley, Mimaropa, Cordillera Administrative Region and Caraga exceeded the epidemic threshold, while prevalence in Bicol, Western Visayas, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and Davao region exceeded the alert threshold.

                Data from the DOH Epidemiology Bureau showed that cases of dengue nationwide have reached 36,664, including 140 deaths from Jan. 1 to Feb. 23...

                  Dengue cases up by 81% in ZamPen

                  ZAMBOANGA CITY, March 15 (PIA) - - Dengue fever cases in the Zamboanga Peninsula Region reached 1,743 from January 1 to March 7, 2019 which is 81 percent higher as compared to the same period last year.

                  According to the Disease Surveillance Update of the Department of Health (DOH) 9, the total 1,743 Dengue cases were gathered from the different sentinel hospitals in the Zamboanga Peninsula Region.
                  DOH reported dengue cases in Zamboanga City is recorded at 719 as compared to 230 cases during same period last year, a rise of 213%. Zamboanga Del Norte recorded 499 cases as compared to 155 cases same period last year, a whooping 222% increase. The said province was pegged to have the highest percent change of dengue fever cases compared to same period of 2018. Zamboanga Sibugay recorded 175 dengue cases; Isabela City , Basilan, 99 cases; and Zamboanga Del Sur with 251.
                  In Zamboanga City, top ten barangays with dengue cases include Calarian/Southcom with 42 cases, followed by Tumaga, with 41; Pasonanca, 37; Tetuan/Sta Cruz, 34; Ayala, 31; San Roque , 30; Talon Talon/ Loop, 26; Baliwasan with 25 cases; Sta Maria, 25; and Mampang, with 22 dengue cases recorded.
                  DOH calls on everyone to become prime movers in controlling mosquito population and avoiding any possible dengue deaths in the community. The health department reminded the public to religiously practice the Enhanced 4-S campaign against dengue which is Search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites; secure Self-protection measures like wearing long pants, long sleeved shirts and daily use of mosquito repellent; Seek early consultation and Support, and fogging only in hotspot areas where increase in cases is registered for two consecutive weeks to prevent an impending outbreak.
                  It can be recalled, Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III emphasized, “the first step to prevent dengue is within our homes. It is important to remove any space or container that can hold unnecessary stagnant water which may become breeding sites of mosquitoes.”

                    33 deaths due to dengue reported in Central Visayas

                    DENGUE CASES in Central Visayas increased to 5,339 during the Jan. to March 16 period this year, with 33 deaths recorded. Department of Health officials in the region reported that in the same period last year, there were 1,598 cases with 11 deaths. Cebu province had the most cases at 3,471 with 25 fatalities. Bohol had 923 with six deaths; Negros Oriental, 888 cases with two deaths; and Siquijor, 55 with no casualty...

                    DOH alarmed over rising dengue cases in Zambo Peninsula

                    ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Department of Health (DOH) 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) has expressed alarm over the high number of cases of dengue in the region, amounting to 1,850 cases from January to March 14.

                    Dr. Dennis Dacayanan, chief of DOH-9 Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU), noted that the figure is higher than the 946 cases registered in the same period in 2018.

                    Dacayanan said this city has the highest number of cases at 802, followed by Zamboanga del Norte with 502; Zamboanga del Sur, 251; Zamboanga Sibugay, 193; and Isabela City, 102.

                    He said they have established dengue fast lanes in hospitals to easily detect dengue cases, equipped with kits for nonstructural protein 1 (NS1) antigen tests, a routine and rapid diagnostic test for dengue virus infection...

                          Dengue cases all over the province already reached 717 as of March 16, with four deaths. This is over 300 percent higher than the cases recorded last year (171 but with no deaths) from Jan. 1 to March 16, said Trabado.
