Dengue fever cases in Brazil increase by almost 600 per cent

Rio de Janeiro (dpa) - The number of cases of the mosquito-born dengue virus in Brazil increased by 600 per cent this year, according to the country's Health Ministry.
From December 30 to August 24, South America's largest county recorded more than 1.4 million probable cases of dengue, the ministry said in a report published on Tuesday. During the same period last year, Brazil recorded fewer than 206,000 cases.
The number of confirmed deaths from the mosquito-born virus stands at 591 this year, compared to last year's 141.
