On 21 January 2023, a male aged 22 from Kamtsekelo presented to Chikoma Health Centre (HC) with Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD) and dehydration. On the same day, a 30-year-old female, presented to Chikoma Zonal Rural Health Centre with similar signs and symptoms to the index case. The female case had just returned to Vubwi from Mozambique to take care of her sick mother. As of 29 January, 17 suspect cholera cases, with six confirmed and one death have been reported.

What happened, where and when?

Ministry of Health declared the Cholera outbreak in Zambia in a Press conference on 26 January (source: https://fb.watch/imqJpL5EZq/?mibextid=NnVzG8). The Minister indicated that the Ministry is doing everything possible to curb the transmissions the Provincial Health offices are supporting the District Rapid Response team to urgently control the spread of the disease.

The first case was reported on 21 January 2023 involving a male aged 22 from Kamtsekelo village under Chikoma Health Center(HC) and a female patient from Mbande in Vubwi District who presented with Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD) and dehydration. A female patient has just come back from Mozambique to nurse her sick mother. Both patients tested positive for cholera...

Zambia: +2,000 Cholera Cases Recorded Since January

On Thursday, health authorities reported that Zambia has recorded some 2,270 cholera cases and 52 deaths since January 26, 2023.

In an update on the cholera situation in the country, Health Minister Sylvia Masebo said 1,385 cases and 36 deaths have been reported in four districts of Lusaka province since October.

Zambia: 93 deaths from cholera since January (new report)

LUSAKA, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Zambian government on Tuesday appealed for support in its response to the cholera outbreak as cases of the waterborne disease continue to surge.

Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo said the sharp rise in cholera cases has put a strain on government resources hence the need for support from other stakeholders.
