    Woman dies as cholera outbreak takes ugly turn in Swat

    SWAT: The cholera epidemic has taken an ugly turn in Shahu Village of Swat district and a victim woman admitted to hospital breathed her last here on Wednesday.

    According to the health department, the number of cholera patients has exceeded 400 during the past three days, adding that most of the patients were being treated at Shahu Medical Camp while more than 25 patients were shifted to Saidu Teaching Hospital.

    Assistant Commissioner Bahrain, Muhammad Ishaq visited Shahu village and inspected the medical facilities being provided to the patients by the Health Department...

      QUETTA:

      At least 500 locals have been afflicted with cholera in Balochistan’s Zhob district during the last four days.

      “Women and children are also among worst hit,” District Health Officer (DHO) Zhob Dr Muzaffar Shah told The Express Tribune.

      Cholera has already claimed three lives including two children and a woman in the same district in recent days.

      An emergency has been declared in the district to cope with the calamity.

      “Our doctors and paramedical staff are trying their level best to provide treatment to the patients,” he maintained.

      Cholera broke out in Ganj Muhalla, Sheikhan and Kharotabad areas of Zhob city, he mentioned.

      The DHO noted that especially children had been affected the most by the water-borne disease...

        QUETTA:

        The number of cholera patients rose to 2,000 in Zhob district of Balochistan on Saturday as there is no end in sight to the waterborne disease across the province despite all the claims of government.

        “Over 200 serious patients are still admitted to District Headquarters Hospital”, District Health Officer (DHO) Zhob Syed Muzaffar Shah told The Express Tribune.

        Cholera outbreak has hit people living in Ganj Muhala, Kharotabad and Sheikhan Muhala. So far cholera has claimed three lives in the district. Two children and a woman have died of the disease, Dr Muzaffar Shah said.

        An emergency has also been declared in the DHQ hospital to provide timely treatment to patients.

        “We have dispatched medicines to Zhob and other affected areas to deal with the situation”, Saleh Muhammad Nasar, the Secretary Health Balochistan said...

            Cholera breaks out in Bajaur village

            BAJAUR:

            As the faraway villages in the Kalam valley of Swat are struggling to deal with repeated outbreaks of cholera and other waterborne diseases, a mountainous village in Bajaur’s Barang Tehsil has also been hit by the ailment.

            Local residents told The Express Tribune that 400 patients have been recorded in the village and most of them are children.

            “People use water from mountain streams and the water has turned murky in all the streams following the heavy downpour in the district. This murky water has caused the outbreak of disease,” they said.

            District Emergency Officer (DEO) Bajaur Muhammad Saad Khan was informed about the outbreak who dispatched a Rescue 1122 team to deal with the situation...

              BAJAUR: A large number of people have been infected with cholera in the remote Barang tehsil of Bajaur district.

              Residents, Rescue 1122 and health officials said on Wednesday that at least 287 people had become sick due to the water-borne disease in Asil Targaoo area.

              Residents said that cholera broke out after people, mostly children, consumed rainwater.

              “Scores of people, mostly children, in Asil Targaoo locality have been affected by cholera after they drank rainwater,” said a local, Ajaml Khan. The villagers said that most of the patients had been shifted to a local hospital for treatment, whose condition was out of danger.

              In a statement, Rescue 1122 in Khar said that 150 patients were provided with first aid before being shifted to hospital. It said that a team of medical technicians was immediately dispatched to the affected area soon after its control room had received information about the outbreak of cholera from local residents...

                At least two people died in cholera outbreak in tehsil Kalkot, Dir Upper district on Thursday.

                Talking to The Express Tribune, District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Fazal Basir said that Deputy Commissioner Akmal Khan Khattak had identified two deaths but there are no sign of a large scale outbreak of the waterborne disease.

                Local residents, however, claimed that in the Jonkas village cholera had affected dozens of people.

                “Cholera is spreading fast among the flood victims who are already faced with a lot of problems, including shortage of food,” they said, adding that a local Bakhat Zada took his son to hospital on foot due to lack of transport and money but the five-year-old died there.

                Similarly, in the nearby village a woman died of cholera...

                  Waterborne diseases still haunt the inhabitants of Balochistan unnoticed who are already struggling to recover from the trauma of recent devastating floods.

                  On Monday two minor girls died of cholera in Dukki district as over 1,500 cholera patients were admitted to District Headquarters Hospital Dukki for treatment after an outbreak.

                  This pushed up the total death toll to six in the district in a week.

                  An official of the health department told The Express Tribune on the condition of anonymity that there was a large influx of patients. He said that most of the patients were discharged after treatment and only over two dozen were currently admitted to the hospital.

                  Health department has already declared an emergency to cope with cholera and other water-borne ailments among the flood victims after record flash floods wreaked havoc across the province recently...
