    Lusaka continues to record new cholera cases
    January 10, 2018

    Lusaka district has recorded 83 New Cholera cases with 60 being adult and 23 children.

    The total number of cases under treatment is at 179 comprising of 51 children and 128 adults.

    According to the cholera update released by Ministry of Health Spokesperson Stanslous Ngosa, of the 179 cases, 54 are admitted to the cholera treatment units and 125 at Heroes Cholera Hospital.

    Cumulatively, Lusaka has recorded 2755 cases, of which 2514 were successfully treated and discharged as at 06:00 AM today...

    Authorities refute reports of cholera cases in Kasama

    Authorities at Kasama General Hospital have refuted claims that Cholera cases have been recorded in the district.

    Acting Kasama District Health Director, Mwenda Wilombe said tests were carried out on the reported cases and they came out negative.

    Meanwhile, a District Epidemic Preparedness Committee has been set up in Kasama following the Cholera outbreak in some parts of the country...

    LUSAKA, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- The number of cholera cases in Zambia have now reached 3,077, with Lusaka, the country's capital accounting for the bulk of the cases, health authorities said on Friday.

    Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Kennedy Malama said 70 deaths have also been recorded countrywide since the outbreak of the waterborne disease in October last year, with Lusaka accounting for 65 deaths.

    He told a daily media update that the Zambian capital recorded 87 new cholera cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of cases recorded so far in the city to 2,927...

      Lusaka - Zambia's army has stepped in after some residents in the capital rioted over the removal of market vendors amid a deadly cholera outbreak.

      Security forces have been clearing streets of the vendors as cholera cases in Lusaka have risen above 2 500 with at least 58 deaths...

        Lusaka records 33 new cholera cases

        HEALTH Ministry Permanent Secretary Kennedy Malama has said that Lusaka has recorded 33 new cholera cases and that the country will only declare the epidemic eradicated if no new case is recorded in two weeks.

        The permanent secretary has also urged Zambians not to relax on preventive measures against cholera even if the interventions made so far by the Government and its partners have brought cholera under control.

        Dr Malama said it took a maximum of up to two weeks for some people to show signs of cholera when they had been exposed to the bacteria and so only if two weeks elapsed without a new case, the country could declare the outbreak eradicated.
        He said the cumulative number of cases recorded in Lusaka since the disease broke out on October 6 last year was 3,620 and 73 deaths.

        Dr Malama said Lusaka was the most hit but there had been sporadic cases reported outside the city but linked to the epicentres like Chilanga and Serenje districts that recorded three cholera cases each and Lundazi had two...

          Cholera cases continue to decline

          MINISTER of Health Chitalu Chilufya says cholera cases have continued reducing countrywide with only 12 cases recorded in the last 24 hours.

          Speaking when he gave the latest update on the disease, Dr Chilufya said one death has been recorded in Chawama Township.

          Dr Chilufya said since the outbreak of cholera last October, a total of 3,942 cases have been recorded countrywide, with 83 deaths...

            LUSAKA Province has recorded 14 new cholera cases in the previous 24 hours, Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya has said.
            Dr Chilufya said of the 14 victims 11 were adults, while three were children but no death has been recorded so far...
            ...the national cumulative total of cholera cases currently stood at 4,388, with 4,299 successful treatments and 89 deaths.
            Dr Chilufya said of the 89 deaths, 55 were at community level and that outside Lusaka central, two cholera cases had been recorded in Kafue and Shibuyunji districts
