    Three people have died and 71 others admitted in various hospitals in Tharaka Nithi county following an outbreak of cholera in the region.

    Tharaka Nithi County Government has linked the outbreak to a possible contamination of water sourced from rivers by the residents for domestic use.

    The county?s health executive Githuiyia Nthuraku has also said that poor hygiene remains a major contributor...

    Four people have died following a cholera outbreak in Mombasa.

    The county?s health department has confirmed 17 suspected cases and five of them have tested positive.

    A statement by the health department forwarded to the Mombasa director of communications Richard Chacha said two people have been confirmed to have died of the disease at the Maka area, while the two other cases that were reported at Vijiweni village, Likoni, tested negative.

    The statement was issued by county?s chief health officer Hadija Shikely yesterday...

      One person has died while four others are admitted in hospitals following cholera outbreak in Alego Usonga, Siaya County. The 87-year-old died in Pala village. County director of Health, Samuel Omondi said the first case was reported on December 31st last year.

      Medical officers Friday confirmed the outbreak but said they were managing the situation. ?Of the other five cases one has tested positive for cholera while the other four tested negative.         According to the county disease surveillance coordinator Hassan Elmi, the four who hail from Hagarbul location were rushed to hospital after symptoms of diarhoea persisted.

        Elmi said three of the victims were subjected to a rapid diagnostic test, whose results turned positive for Cholera...

                A total of 817 cholera cases, resulting in 10 deaths have been reported this year, a Unicef-Kenya report shows.

                Seven counties are still reporting an active cholera outbreak. They are Nairobi, Garissa, Embu, Kirinyaga, Mombasa, Turkana and Wajir. The outbreak has, however, been controlled in Kirinyaga and Mombasa counties.

                Since January last year, 3,967 cholera cases were reported, with 76 deaths...

                      Health workers in Trans-Nzoia County are battling to control cholera outbreak which has claimed four lives and left several others hospitalised.

                      The outbreak has been reported at densely populated Kipsongo slums within Kitale where several people were taken ill after drinking contaminated water.

                      Medical Superintendent Wanjala Simiyu confirmed the deaths and said that 21 people are admitted at Kitale County referral hospital. Dr Wanjala told the Standard that blood samples taken from the affected persons show that the victims are suffering from cholera...

                          Two people have succumbed to cholera in Kipsongo slums of Kitale town, in Trans-Nzoia county.

                          Confirming the incident, Kitale Referral Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Emmanuel Wanjala said five of the other 21 patients admitted to the facility had also tested positive for cholera and were under medication.

                          However, 10 have already been discharged from the hospital after their conditions were stabilised...
