    Health officials raise alarm over cholera outbreak in Catanduanes; 1 dies in Bato town

    Health and local government officials in the island province of Catanduanes have expressed alarm over the cholera outbreak that struck the province on January 7 with 45 persons confined in hospitals up to this time.

    An initial report received from the regional office of the Department of Health-Bicol Tuesday showed there were two persons who were contaminated by an e-coli bacteria.

    Health authorities attribute the cholera outbreak to the alleged water contamination in the area after typhoon Nina hit the province on Christmas day...

    Cholera confirmed in Carnaza Island

    AT least 129 people have fallen ill in a cholera outbreak in Carnaza Island in Daanbantayan town. The Department of Health (DOH) sent personnel to the island to assist residents.

    Rennan Cimafranca of DOH 7?s Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit told reporters that of the 129 confirmed cases, 11 have been admitted to a hospital and lab tests showed three of them indeed had cholera.

      The Department of Health (DOH) has declared an outbreak of cholera in two areas in the Visayas.

      According to the DOH, the affected areas are Sitio Badjao Bridge, Barangay Totolan in Dauis town, Bohol, and Carnaza Island in Daanbantayan town, Cebu.

      Seventy-five residents of the Sitio Badjao Bridge were rushed to the hospital last week, but are now recovering.

      Meanwhile, more than a hundred people on Carnaza Island were confirmed to be infected with cholera...
