One person has died while 26 others are under treatment following cholera outbreaks in Malawi's eastern districts of Machinga and Zomba, the Ministry of Health has said.
By December 25, 2015, according to Secretary for Health, Dr McPhil Magwira, Machinga recorded a cumulative total of 19 cholera cases and one death while Zomba reported 7 cases and no death.
Magwira also said in statement that all the reported cholera cases are from Lake Chilwa area.

Malawian residents leaving at Songwe border area in Karonga the northern part of the country are at risk of being affected by Cholera disease which is reported to have hit its Tanzanian counterparts at Kyela district, health officials have confirmed.
Speaking in an interview with Nyasa times after report that 14 cases have been registered at Kyela the bordering district of Tanzania, Karonga District Hospital Environmental Health Officer Elias Phiri said sensitization campaign to the community onto how they can prevent the disease is under way as the first measure of making sure that the disease does not spread in the country...

Tension high in Nkhatabay after Cholera outbreak

There is high tension among people living in Malawi?s northern region Tonga district of Nkhatabay where cases of Cholera have been reported.
According to information gathered by Malawi24 in the district, about 15 people have been diagnosed with this deadly infection such that they have since been admitted at Nkhatabay district hospital.
Currently, about five villages have been affected but the situation is believed to be fast worsening across some parts of the district where medical authorities are yet to identify the crisis...

As the fight against cholera outbreak seems to have been won in Malawi, in some areas new cases continue to be reported.
One of such areas is Kuwawe in Nkhatabay district where the disease is said to be on the increase.

Cholera Outbreak: No new cases reported

The five districts which were affected by Cholera have registered no new cases since mid-January, the ministry of health says.
Director of preventive health services in the ministry Storn Kabuluzi told local media that people in the country have helped curb the outbreak since they took patients to hospitals on time.
When the disease first hit the country starting on Boxing Day last year, there was a total number of 722 patients.
A report the ministry has released shows that, as of last week, the total number of cholera patients in treatment camps nationwide is 11. Of the 11, Zomba has three patients, Phalombe has six and Karonga has two...

Authorities in Malawi have expressed worry over the rise of Cholera cases in the district of Karonga, some 555 km north of the capital, Lilongwe.
Local leaders have urged members of the press to continue joining hands with them and health workers to disseminate information about the sporadic spread of the epidemic in the district to curb the challenge.
Chief Kyungu made the call on April 22 during a cholera briefing update at Karonga museum's amphitheatre hall to strategise on the increase of the epidemic.

Malawi: 13 Die of Cholera in Karonga As the Disease Affects 235 Others
Health officials in Karonga are blaming fishermen for the continued cases of the deadly cholera disease in the lakeshore district.
Lewis Tukula, a district environmental health officer said there are continued cases of cholera in some areas in the district because fishermen are not cooperating on hygiene practices.
