    Three killed by suspected cholera outbreak in Rivers community
    11th January 2025​

    A suspected cholera outbreak has occurred in Isiodum community in Andoni Local Government Area, Rivers State, killing three persons.

    The victims were Mr. Michael Agba, Mrs. Abigail Rowland, and Mrs. Ekenere Awaji Loveday, while Mrs. Amos Asitor is in critical condition.

    The incident was confirmed by Dr. Gogo-Ogute Isaiah, a media practitioner and former Chairman of Andoni Local Government Area.​..

      The Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Health, Patrick Essiet, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.​..

        Suspected Cholera outbreak claims two lives in Delta community

        A suspected outbreak of Cholera has reportedly claimed a septuagenarian, identified as Mr. John Okusanren, and one other at Bobi Community in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.

        It was gathered that Mr. Okusanren passed on Friday, January 17, after a few hours of sudden vomiting and stooling, while details of the second victim haven’t been disclosed.

        A Warri-based online media, FreshAngle International, disclosed that the first casualty of the suspected Cholera, happened last week Wednesday in Bobi community.​..

            he outbreak of cholera in the troubled Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State has claimed four lives, with several others hospitalised.

            The Executive Chairman of the council, Hon Amalau Samuel Amalau, who confirmed the outbreak on Monday, disclosed that the affected areas include the Hurti community, Bokkos West, Bokkos Central, and Mangol in the council area.​..

              Cholera kills 13, many hospitalised in Niger
              23rd July 2025​

              Thirteen people have died from a cholera outbreak in six local government areas in Niger State, and 236 people have also been hospitalised in the affected places.

              PUNCH Online learnt that the outbreak was first reported on Sunday in Shiroro Local Government Area, as well as in four other LGAs, where the waterborne disease was said to have claimed the lives of victims as of Wednesday.​..

                Niger battles cholera as 409 cases emerge across 16 LGAs

                ​The cholera pandemic has affected approximately 16 local government councils in Niger State as of Thursday, July 24, 2024, with around 409 individuals impacted by the disease.

                Dr. Ibrahim Dangana, the State Honourable Commissioner for the Niger State Ministry of Primary Health Care, made this announcement while speaking to journalists during the launch of a sensitisation campaign for measles and rubella in Minna.

                Dr. Dangana noted that the death toll currently stands at 13, and he emphasised that the state government has implemented necessary measures to control the spread of the infection.​..

                  UNICEF Confirms 150 Cholera Cases in Niger

                  The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has confirmed that Niger State has so far recorded 150 positive cases of cholera since the outbreak began, with 16 fatalities reported.

                  During an advocacy visit to the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Farouq Bahago, UNICEF’s Chief of Kaduna Field Office, Dr Gerida Birukila—represented by Health Specialist Dr Ahmed Tsofo—disclosed that 451 people had been isolated. Of these, 150 were confirmed positive through rapid diagnostic testing, treated, and discharged.

                  Dr Birukila noted that the initial 13 deaths reported at the start of the epidemic had risen by three, bringing the toll to 16.​..

                    A new cholera outbreak in Bauchi State has resulted in 58 deaths and at least 258 confirmed infections, according to official figures released by the state government.

                    The disease has spread across 14 local government areas, prompting heightened concern over the rapid escalation.

                    In response, the Bauchi State Government has established a Cholera Steering Committee headed by Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau, as well as a Technical Working Group led by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sani Danbam, to coordinate the response.

                    During the inauguration of the committees, Jatau stressed the urgent need for coordinated, multi-sectoral action, noting that the outbreak continues to claim lives and strain the health system.​..

                      Zamfara reports 179 deaths in 12,052 cholera cases

                      About 179 people have died out of the 12,052 cholera cases recorded in Zamfara State, representing a 1.4 per cent fatality rate, which is lower than the national average of 3.3 per cent.

                      Commenting, the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government (SSG), Malam Abubakar Nakwada, said the significantly low cholera fatality rate in Zamfara State was due to the efforts of the Zamfara State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC), frontline health workers, and partners.​..
