Chaman, Balochistan: Supporting Department of Health to respond to an outbreak, M?decins Sans Fronti?res (MSF) is running a 30-bed isolation ward for treatment of the measles patients in the District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital in Chaman, District Qilla Abdullah. MSF is fully managing the isolation ward through medical staff, medicines, Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), water and power supply, sanitization and health education. Since 1st week of January when MSF opened the isolation ward, a total of 125 patients have been treated successfully and 250 patients sent home on oral medications. KARACHI: An outbreak of measles cases has been reported in northern Sindh districts of Jacobabad and Shikarpur, quoting health officials, ARY News reported on Thursday.
Sindh health department has sent its team to the area after several cases of measles reported in children in Jacobabad, Thul, Garhi Yaseen and other towns.
The team also comprises of the officials of the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI).
?In March 75 children infected with measles were brought to the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) in Karachi,? NICH head Dr. Jamal Raza said.

Two minor girls died of measles here on Wednesday while dozen others affected of the disease was under treatment at various hospitals of tehsil Kandhkot of district Kashmore. Non-availability of anti-measles vaccine at hospitals was adding to the problem.
According to details, two minor girls including four-year-old Asifa daughter of Bashir Ahmed Gunior and one-year-old Hifza daughter of Shabir Ahmed Gunio hailing from Eidgah Mohallah was Kandhkot were detected with measles some one week earlier and were under treatment.
However, due to non-availability of anti-measles vaccine, the two girls stated to be daughters of two real brothers could not be treated appropriately and expired...

LARKANA: Measles is spreading fast in Larkana and its surroundings, confirmed health experts working in Chandka Medical College Hospital?s (CMCH) children units to Dawn on Tuesday.
The number of cases continued to swell and the graph was constantly rising, said the Child Life Foundation (CLF) which runs a separate emergency unit adjacent to the CMCH Children Hospital. Foundation administrator Abdullah Khan Asar said that since the fresh episode which started in January 2021, and till date, 184 measles patients were admitted in the emergency unit where six deaths were recorded.

The government of Sindh has stated that it has been decided to launch the world’s biggest anti-measles vaccination drive in the province during which 19 million children will be immunised against the deadly disease.
The decision comes after 38 children recently succumbed to measles in the province.
In a joint press conference in Karachi on Tuesday, Sindh Project Director of Immunisation Irshad Memon said that 2,489 children in Sindh have been affected by measles this year, of which 38 have died. Memon was accompanied by Sindh Health Director-General Dr Jumman Khan, Emergency Operation Centre (EOC)’s Dr Ahmed Ali, and health experts at the press conference.
