    Two children thought to have measles in American Samoa

    Health authorities in American Samoa say two children visiting from neighbouring Samoa are suspected of having measles and are in hospital care.

    Physician Saipale Fuimaono has told KHJ News that blood samples from the two are being sent to Hawaii for testing, with results expected in a few days.

    Dr Fuimaono said to prevent any spread of what the children had, the family where the children were staying was being monitored.

    Although there are claims on social media that there are measles cases in the territory, Dr Fuimaono said none had been confirmed...

    American Samoa confirms nine measles cases

    The Department of Health in American Samoa has now declared a measles outbreak after confirmation of nine samples sent to Hawaii for testing.

    Of the nine, five are people who are travellers to the territory.

    Epidemiologist Dr Aifili John Tufa announced the outbreak during a live broadcast fundraiser to help neighbouring Samoa's fight against the disease.

    Dr Tufa later told KHJ News they believe there are other cases that have not presented at the hospital...

        Another measles case has been confirmed in American Samoa, bringing the total number in the territory to 12.

        The government said the latest case was a 28-year-old man from Fagaitua village, who has not left American Samoa in the past three months.

        A woman, 27, is also thought to have measles, with samples sent to Hawaii for testing.

        The territory is under an emergency declaration, with travel restrictions imposed on the territory's border, public gatherings restricted, and a mass vaccination campaign underway...

          The cases involve a four-year-old girl from Pavaiai and a 12-year-old boy from Fagaitua, who both sought medical attention last week.

          Both were treated and released, and blood samples have been sent to Hawaii for testing...

            Tests in Hawaii laboratories confirmed the disease in a 27-year-old woman and two boys, aged 12 years and six months respectively.

              Another confirmed measles case in American Samoa

              Health officials in American Samoa have confirmed another measles case after a sample tested positive at a Hawaii laboratory.

              The latest case brings to 16 the total of confirmed measles cases in the territory, which has continued stringent travel restrictions to combat the spread of the disease and to counter the threat of the coronavirus.

              Health officials told a Cabinet meeting the new measles case is a 24-year-old woman, who was born in American Samoa and only had one of the two required shots of the MMR vaccine...
