    3rd confirmed measles case in El Paso as disease resurges after 25-year absence

    EL PASO, Texas - The number of confirmed measles cases in El Paso grew to three on Monday, marking what local health officials said was the first resurgence of the highly-contagious respiratory disease in over a quarter-century.

    The latest victim was a boy toddler, the city health department said. He joined a woman in her late 40's and another boy toddler who were diagnosed last week amid a nationwide outbreak that finally reached the Borderland.

    Despite the additional case confirmed Monday, officials said they don't expect to see many more individuals diagnosed with measles.

    "Because El Paso's immunization rates are so high, we don't expect to see a huge number of cases emerge," said Robert Resendes, the city of El Paso's public health director...

      EL PASO, Texas - Public health officials said a boy toddler tested positive Wednesday for measles, making it the fourth confirmed case of the virus in El Paso in less than two weeks.

      Two other toddlers and a woman in her late 40s are the other EL Paso measles victims, officials said previously...

        A fifth case of measles has been confirmed, with health officials recommending schools not allow partially vaccinated students to enroll for the remainder of the 2019 year.

        A woman in her early 30s contracted the virus, according to the city's Department of Public Health. The patient did not report any visits to public places where possible exposure to others may have occurred, so there is currently no list of dates, times or locations that can be provided...

          EL PASO, Texas - A sixth case of the measles was confirmed Wednesday in a growing outbreak that El Paso public health officials warned could produce more incidents of the highly contagious respiratory disease.

          The latest victim was a man in his mid-20's who officials believe may have exposed other people at a veterans clinic and two local drug stores. ..

          ... anyone who visited the below listed places on the dates and times noted to make sure they are properly immunized against the measles, and to immediately seek medical care if they develop a rash and fever.

            A person residing in Travis County has been diagnosed with measles. Out of an abundance of caution, Health Departments in Central Texas are informing people who were at various locations listed below during the specified time frames that they may have been exposed to an individual with measles.


            Local, state and federal health officials are mounting a coordinated effort to inform people who may have been exposed. Listed below are the dates and locations of the potential exposure sites associated with the confirmed case of measles. Dates and locations may change as APH continues to gather information. Please refer to our website for updates.

                AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin resident recently diagnosed with the first confirmed case of rubella since 1999 was fully vaccinated against the virus, the patient’s doctor’s office confirmed.

                Dr. Sharon Hausman-Cohen, a board-certified family medicine practitioner, said her associate diagnosed the patient after she developed symptoms following a trip to Thailand.

                This patient, who the doctor said was a local teacher, had a mild infection. She said she experienced viral symptoms as well as rashing, fatigue and a runny nose.

                Austin Public Health said they sent out a notice to the people which may have been exposed, including everyone in close contact at the school where the teacher works.

                Unvaccinated children have been informed that they must stay out of class for 21 consecutive calendar days, and then must receive doctor approval before returning to class, per Texas state law.

                It is still unclear at this time which school was affected...
