    The Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-7) has expressed alarm over the sudden increase of measles cases in the region this year.

        Measles outbreak declared inside Handumanan jail

        THE Department of Health (DOH)-Western Visayas declared measles outbreak inside the compound of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Barangay Handumanan, Bacolod City.

        As of November 12, about 25 inmates have been suffering from fever and rashes inside the BJMP-Handumanan, Dr. Grace Tan, head of CHO-Environment Sanitation Division, said Tuesday, November 13.

        Of the 25 inmates, 19 inmates have been placed in the isolation area.

        If there?s an increase of fever and rashes, Tan said they leveled it as suspected measles unless it will be confirmed with the laboratory test.

        However, she said the Department of Health (DOH)-Western Visayas called it an outbreak...

          MALAPATAN, Sarangani - Local officials have reported several deaths due to measles in 6 remote sitios of a village in this town.

          The cases of measles have been reported in Sitios Datal Nai, Alna, Lower Kyogam, Upper Kyogam, Mahayag, and Lino -- all in Barangay Upper Suyan.

          Boyet Ogan, Upper Suyan's barangay chairman, said that around 100 people were affected by measles, with 21 identified fatalities. Ogan added that they started to monitor the disease in the village last November 5.

          Municipal health officer Diomedes Remitar said they have monitored 17 deaths in 23 different hospitals in the town but they have yet to verify if these were due to measles...

            Measles kills 21 children in Mindanao

            MANILA: At least 21 children, including infants, died in an outbreak of measles that afflicted residents of three remote ?barangay? (villages) on the island province of Sarangani in restive Mindanao, according to local and health officials.

            Dr Diomedes Remitar, the municipal health officer of the town of Malapatan in Sarangani, said that so far, the total death toll was reported since the ailment struck at the villages in the first three weeks of November.

            At least 23 of the patients have already been hospitalised but many more especially children and infants could not be reached by volunteer health workers because most of the affected areas could be reached only by 20 hours of trekking, Remitar said...

              There are 84 cases of measles in the country or three more than the previous count, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said Thursday.

              Duque said these cases were in General Santos City which has declared a measles outbreak this week and in the province of Sarangani.

              Three new cases were reported in Malapatan, Sarangani, he said, which brought the count to 84 from the previous 81.

              Of the 84 infected aged four months to 40 years old, Duque said that tests confirmed one died due to measles. There are 17 others in measles-affected communities who died, but tests are yet to confirm if they died due to measles...
