Measles alert issued after infected tourist visits Sydney CBD and Leichhardt
              Han Nguyen

NSW Health is urging anyone who visited the Sydney CBD and Leichhardt in the past few days to be aware of the symptoms of measles after an infected tourist visited the areas.

The young adult international traveller is believed to have caught the infection in their home country and first developed symptoms in Melbourne on July 15.

The person then travelled to Sydney and visited tourist hot spots before being diagnosed with measles and put into isolation.

The areas include the Queen Victoria Building, the Pitt Street shopping district, Circular Quay and Central Station...
NSW Health said the specific exposure sites included:

              July 15

              ▪ Flight VA841 flight from Tullamarine Airport, Melbourne, to Sydney at 11.30am.

              ▪ Madang Korean BBQ restaurant on Pitt Street at dinner time.

              July 16

              ▪ Pancakes On The Rocks at The Rocks at lunch time.

              ▪ Hokka Hokka restaurant at Westfield Sydney at dinner time.

              July 18

              ▪ Caf? Gioia in Leichhardt at lunch time.

              ▪ Yu Xiang Hot Pot restaurant on Hay Street at dinner time.

              ▪ Leichhardt Medical and Dental Centre.

              July 19

              ▪ Train from Town Hall to Green Square before lunch.

              ▪ The Grounds of Alexandria for lunch.

              ▪ Abb Air Thai Restaurant at lunch time.

              ▪ Leichhardt Medical and Dental Centre.

The spokesman said any case of infectious measles can lead to an outbreak, however most measles introductions do not result in outbreaks due to the high vaccination coverage in Australia.

In the first three months of 2017, eight cases of measles were imported into NSW, and only one of those cases triggered an outbreak.

Measles alert for Perth after WA student infected overseas
                David Allan-Petale
                5 Aug 2017, 9:53 a.m.

The WA Health Department has issued a measles alert after a confirmed diagnosis for an unvaccinated secondary school student who returned to Perth after being infected overseas.

In a statement, the department said prior to the diagnosis - and while infectious to others - the student attended Perth Waldorf School in Bibra Lake.

The department warned that a substantial number of students exposed at the school had not been vaccinated against measles, and because the school has a metropolitan-wide catchment, it's likely additional cases of measles will occur in Perth over the coming weeks.

The campus of Perth Waldorf School also includes pre-school and primary school students, and the department said it cannot exclude the possibility of incidental exposure to younger students.

The school has been working closely with Public Health staff in notifying parents of the potential exposure.

Prior to diagnosis, the case was also in the Midland area on Tuesday afternoon on July 25 and on Sunday afternoon on July 30, and may have exposed people there...

                  Perth

A Steiner school in Perth at the centre of a potential measles outbreak has more than 200 unvaccinated students and has told parents in official documents they can decide whether to ?immunise their children.

The West Australian Health Department was yesterday ?attempting to arrange a special vaccination clinic to attend Perth Waldorf School, in the southern suburb of Bibra Lake, but it remained unclear if the school would agree to such a move.

Last week, a high school student from the school was diagnosed with measles after contracting the disease while on holiday in Europe. Before being diagnosed, and while still infectious, the unvaccinated student attended PWS, which includes preschool and primary school students as well as a playgroup for children as young as two.

The school has a catchment area across the Perth metropolitan area, prompting the Health Department to warn that ?additional cases of measles are likely across the city in coming weeks. About 50 per cent of the 420 students at Perth Waldorf School have not been vaccinated...

Perth doctors fear measles cases not being reported to authorities

                    August 11, 2017 12:00pm

DOCTORS are worried there might be more cases of measles not being reported to health authorities, after a second student at Perth Waldorf School was found to be infected.

The WA Health Department yesterday confirmed the second case but said it did not pose a public health risk because the child had been excluded from school.

It said the school had agreed to host an immunisation clinic and details were being arranged so it could be held as soon as possible.

Last week, health authorities warned of the risk of a measles outbreak after a high school student caught the disease on holiday in Europe. Before being diagnosed, and while still infectious, the student was at the Bibra Lake school and other areas in Perth...
