    NM health department reports possible measles exposure in Albuquerque

    ​While New Mexico’s last reported measles case occurred in August, the state health department on Tuesday announced a potential exposure here in Albuquerque.

    According to a news release, a traveler from South Carolina who has been diagnosed with measles spent a night in Albuquerque, with potential exposure to others between 11:45 p.m., Dec. 28 and 7 a.m., Dec. 29 at the Quality Inn (450 Paisano St. NE).

    The health department said anyone who stayed at the Quality Inn during that time period should check their vaccination status; report any symptoms in the next three weeks to a health care provider; and stay home if symptoms develop.​..

    Federal inmate in New Mexico tests positive for measles

    HIDALGO COUNTY, N.M. – A federal inmate held in a southern New Mexico detention facility has tested positive for measles.

    This marks the state’s first confirmed case of 2026, following a statewide outbreak last year that sickened 100 people.

    The New Mexico Department of Health has not identified any public locations where exposure may have occurred and is coordinating with Hidalgo County to assure all quarantine, isolation, testing and vaccination protocols are followed to minimize risk of measles spread.​..​

      ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Four more federal inmates in New Mexico have tested positive for measles, the New Mexico Department of Health said Friday, bringing the number of cases in the state to five this year.

      “These new infections serve as a reminder that measles can spread rapidly and that the best prevention against this virus is the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) shot,” said Dr. Chad Smelser, NMDOH’s deputy state epidemiologist, in a statement.

      The first case of the year was reported Tuesday in an inmate at the Hidalgo County Detention Center. The four new cases include two inmates at the Luna County Detention Center, one at the Doña Ana County Detention Center and a second at the Hidalgo facility...

        DOÑA ANA COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – A federal inmate held in the Doña Ana County Detention Center has tested positive for measles, bringing the total number of 2026 measles cases in New Mexico to six, the New Mexico Department of Health announced Wednesday.

        People may have been exposed to measles from this most recent case at the U.S. District Court building at 100 N. Church St. in Las Cruces, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 24.

        If you were at this location, NMDOH asks that you check your vaccination status and report any measles symptoms in the next 21 days (until March 17, 2026) to your health care provider and stay home to prevent the spread. Additionally, the NMDOH Helpline can be reached at 1-833-SWNURSE (1-833-796-8773).​..
