    First Case of Measles Identified in North Carolina

    MEDIA ADVISORY — The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed a case of measles in a child who was visiting Forsyth and Guilford counties. The child became ill while traveling to NC from another country where measles outbreaks have recently been reported. To protect the individual and their family’s privacy, no additional information about this individual will be released. This is the first confirmed case of measles in the state in 2025. NCDHHS is recommending all unvaccinated individuals ages one year and older receive measles vaccination to protect themselves and those around them...

    A case of measles has been discovered in an unvaccinated child in Polk County, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services announced Dec. 31.

    The child had visited locations in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, linked to a large ongoing measles outbreak in Upstate South Carolina. The child developed symptoms of measles before Christmas and has since recovered. To protect the family’s privacy, the health department is not releasing additional information about the child.

    The state health department has been in communication with the South Carolina Department of Public Health since the beginning of their measles response. This is the second measles case recorded in North Carolina in 2025 and the first believed to be related to the South Carolina outbreak.​..

      Health officials warn of measles exposure in Gaston County

      GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — North Carolina health officials are warning the public after a person infected with measles traveled through Gaston County while contagious late last month.

      The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and Gaston County Public Health say the individual was in the county on December 26, 2025. To protect the person’s privacy, no additional identifying details are being released.

      Health officials say anyone who was at Constantine’s Restaurant, located at 1825 South New Hope Road in Gastonia, after 8:30 p.m. that night may have been exposed to measles. Those individuals are urged to monitor for symptoms through Jan. 16.​..

        Possible exposures at NC restaurant, Christmas event linked to Upstate measles outbreak

        RALEIGH, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has identified two measles exposure locations in Gaston County that a person visited while infectious with measles.

        DHHS officials told FOX Carolina that these exposures are linked to the ongoing Upstate outbreak.

        Officials have defined the times of potential exposure at the following locations:

        Constantine’s Restaurant, 1825 S. New Hope Road, Gastonia, after 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 26
        Christmas Town USA in McAdenville, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 26

        Officials said that the person did not visit any indoor locations at Christmas Town USA, so the risk of transmission of measles to others who were attending at the same time is low.​..

          BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Three siblings in Buncombe County contracted measles after visiting South Carolina, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) and Buncombe County Health and Human Services (BCHHS) announced in Jan. 6 press releases.

          According to NCDHHS, the family went to Spartanburg County, S.C., where there is a large measles outbreak, approximately one to two weeks before the children got sick.

          No additional information will be released to protect the family’s privacy, according to the press release.

          NCDHHS provided the following location and times of possible exposure:

          Mission Hospital Emergency Department waiting room, located at 509 Biltmore Avenue in Asheville
          Date: Jan. 4
          Time frame: Between 2 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.​..

            North Carolina confirms 5th measles case as South Carolina's outbreak surges

            BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — As of Friday, Jan. 9, there are a total of 310 measles cases in South Carolina, mostly in Spartanburg County, including 99 new cases since Tuesday, according to S.C. health officials.

            North Carolina is also dealing with measles, with a case recently confirmed on Friday in Rutherford County. This raises the state's total to five cases since late December, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS).

            While the number of measles cases in western North Carolina is in single digits, health officials are warning the public about just how quickly and easily it can spread, along with several other illnesses.

            Health officials continue to remain focused on stopping it from spreading.​..

                The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services announced Friday there is a confirmed case of the measles in Cabarrus County, bringing the state’s total to eight since late December.

                It comes after the state confirmed two additional cases among unvaccinated siblings in Buncombe County. Both cases are connected to the ongoing measles outbreak in Spartanburg County, South Carolina.​

                According to the NCDHHS’s measles dashboard, all eight of North Carolina’s measles cases are among people aged 17 or younger.​..
