Tandjilé: Measles epidemic leads to school closures in Bologo
by Zara Sakawa Abba-meï | Feb 14, 2025
For two weeks, a measles epidemic has been hitting the sub-prefecture of Bologo, in Tandjilé, leading to the temporary closure of several schools in order to limit the spread of the disease.
This Thursday, February 13, 2025, at 8 a.m., several public and private schools under the Bologo Primary and Secondary Education Inspectorate remained closed. Faced with the situation, school officials, in consultation with the local administration, decided to suspend classes for a minimum of three days in some establishments, while others will remain closed all week. The purpose of this decision is to allow health authorities to take the necessary measures to contain the epidemic.
Alerted to the situation, the sub-prefect of Bologo, Moussa Mbodou Moussa, collaborated with the heads of establishments to call on the health district of Bologo for rapid care.
According to the chief physician of the health district of Bologo, Oumar Mahamat Traoré, the situation is worrying. “Since January 8 until today, we have recorded 40 cases of measles. All have been notified and reported to the health authorities in N’Djamena. Our health centers have been overwhelmed by these cases, and the center of Bologo is the most affected,” he said.
Faced with this epidemic outbreak, the health authorities, in collaboration with the heads of schools, have intensified awareness raising among families. “We are explaining to parents and students the preventive measures to be adopted: isolating sick children, preventing them from sharing meals or sleeping with others to limit the transmission of the disease. We have also set up medical care for the cases identified,” added the head doctor.
Local and health authorities remain mobilized to stop the spread of measles in Bologo, in the hope of a rapid return to normal for students and their families.
