Despite lockdowns and social distancing, cases of chickenpox are soaring in Queensland.
Queensland Health's notifiable conditions data shows 5,748 people have contracted chickenpox so far this year across the state, compared to an annual average of 5,100.
Sunshine Coast figures are higher than usual, with more than 70 cases diagnosed in July, putting the yearly total at 571 cases, well above the annual average of 460.
Public health physician Dr Penny Hutchinson said those were the cases that were laboratory confirmed, but there could be many more...
