    High Point University confirms 8 cases of contagious mumps on campus, 1 case reported at Elon University

    HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point University is taking action after the Guilford County Health Department and Novant Health helped to confirm eight cases of mumps, a contagious infection, on campus Saturday.

    One case of mumps has also been reported at Elon University.

    "The university continues to follow protocol to ensure the students impacted receive appropriate care and have been provided with alternative housing," HPU said in a news release...

    Three more cases of the mumps have brought the total at Elon University to six.

    The county Health Department continues to offer vaccinations on campus. They won’t prevent mumps in anyone already infected, but will decrease the danger for everyone else.

    The Health Department also is working to identify anyone with possible symptoms...

      HIGH POINT, N.C. —

      The number of confirmed mumps cases on college campuses continues to rise across the Triad.

      In collaboration with the Guilford County Health Department, High Point University officials told WXII 12 News that there are now 11 confirmed cases of mumps on campus.

      Monday, HPU said it was monitoring eight cases.

      Up the road at Elon University, campus officials told WXII 12 News on Monday that they have six confirmed cases...

          Two area universities can't seem to get rid of the mumps.

          Elon University had gone about three weeks without a reported case of the contagious viral disease until Monday, when the university said another student contracted the mumps. That's the university's seventh confirmed case since Sept. 24 — and first since Oct. 7.

          High Point University, meanwhile, has seen the number of on-campus mumps cases hit 30, a spokeswoman for the Guilford County Department of Public Health said Monday...

            GUILFORD COUNTY — The Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services and High Point University continue to address cases of mumps that keep breaking out on campus.

              Updated on Monday, Dec. 9 — Vice President for Student Life Jon Dooley confirmed in an email that there are two additional cases of mumps in Elon students, bringing the total to 13 for the academic year. According to the email, The Alamance County Health Department has administered 2,261 vaccinations this semester as of Dec. 9.

              According to Dooley's email, the county Health Department still recommends to individuals who have not previously had mumps to get a third MMR shot to reduce the likelihood of contracting the disease.

                Elon University mumps cases at 15

                An Elon University student was diagnosed with mumps while at home for the holiday break, adding to the 14 confirmed cases the university has seen since Sept. 24.

                Since the first confirmed case, six were confirmed in October, three in November, and five in December.

                Students returning from semesters abroad were advised to take third doses of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine before returning to campus in January. Elon’s Student Health Services partnered with the county Health Department to offer vaccinations for students throughout the semester...
