    Mumps Outbreak Near University Of Florida, Warns Alachua County Health Department

    The officials at the Alachua County Health Department has warned about an unusual mumps outbreak near the University of Florida. Spokesperson Paul Myers said that at least 12 cases of the mumps have been reported to the health department.

    Although the numbers may seem small, the officials said the baseline of Alachua County is between 0 and 2, increasing the baseline up to 500%.

    That number may seem small, but the department said the county?s baseline is between 0 and 2 cases; making this about a 500 percent increase. Myers noted that mumps cases are easily traced in this outbreak.

    He said, ?This is an outbreak between a very close-knit group of individuals. They probably shared utensils, they may have shared drinking vessels.?

    The University of Florida has confirmed that they have 10 to 12 mumps cases reported among the students at their Gainesville campus...

    Alachua County Health Department?s administrator said there have now been 24 confirmed cases in Alachua County, up from 12 a week ago.

    Mumps continues to spread across Alachua County.

    The Alachua County Health Department reports that the number of mumps cases has doubled in the last week and that health officials are working to reduce the spread.

    Paul Myers, administrator for the Alachua County Health Department, said there have been 24 confirmed cases in Alachua County, up from 12 a week ago.

    Florida Department of Health also reported that, since the beginning of 2019, there have been 37 total reported cases of mumps in Florida as of June 1. However, the number is thought to be much higher, due to reports of mumps since that date...

      Young child diagnosed with probable case of mumps in Clay County

      A probable case of mumps has been diagnosed in a child in Clay County.

      WOKV has confirmed the child is 4-years-old or younger and was up to date on immunizations.

      The Clay County Health Department says it is not yet clear where the child was exposed to the virus, but they are investigating and monitoring for other cases. We?re told the child has recovered and been allowed to return to its daycare. The name of the daycare is not being disclosed, however the Clay County Health Department says parents there were notified about the diagnosis...

          Florida state health officials reported an additional 26 mumps cases in June, bringing the total since the beginning of the year to 66 in fourteen counties.
