CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The College of Charleston is reporting a total of 43 confirmed mumps cases have been reported on campus since September 23rd.

CofC president Andrew Hsu said a majority of those cases are no longer infectious but encouraged students to get vaccinated, practice good hygiene and monitor their health to help stop the spread of new cases.

“While these new positive cases are not unexpected, my administration and I continue to take this public health threat extremely seriously,” he said. “Based on what we’ve learned from health officials and from past outbreaks in other communities, additional cases are likely and prevention measures are needed to stop the spread of mumps.”

The College remains on its normal operating schedule and there are no plans to alter class/activity schedules or close campus due to the ongoing outbreak. ..
