    Department of Health investigating increase in mumps cases, 14 cases this year

    The state Department of Health is investigating an increasing number of cases of mumps infection statewide.

    Since March 2017, DOH has become aware of two clusters of cases, together involving at least nine individuals on Oahu. There have been fourteen confirmed cases statewide in 2017...

    That brings the total number of mumps cases so far this year to 16.

    Officials say at this time, the new cases have no relationship to the two clusters mentioned previously...

          The Hawai?i State Department of Health today confirmed four additional cases of mumps in O?ahu residents, bringing the total number of cases in 2017 to 55.

          The recently confirmed cases are children. Two of the cases are linked to a previously confirmed adult case, and two of the cases are linked to previous cases in the community. None of the individuals required hospitalization.

                          Last year, Hawaii saw just 10 cases of mumps.
