    The DeKalb County Health Department in conjunction with Northern Illinois University Health Services reports five cases of mumps in Northern Illinois University (NIU) students. The outbreak is primarily confined to a defined population.       Mumps case reported in Alton school; parents advised to watch for symptoms

      ALTON ? An Alton elementary school student was recently diagnosed with a suspected case of the mumps, and parents and guardians have been advised to be on the lookout for symptoms and take precautions to make sure it stays an isolated case.

      Information was sent out to parents at the affected school last week after they were informed about the case, according to district officials. The specific school was not identified by district officials, but a West Elementary parent confirmed to The Telegraph that the case occurred at the school...

          Health officials confirmed Thursday that one Barrington High School student has mumps and identified nine probable cases of the disease.

          The Lake County Health Department warned more cases could occur because the two employees and seven students suspected of contracting the contagious disease attend different grade levels.

                More Mumps Cases Reported in Lake County
                There are 3 confirmed mumps cases in the Barrington area and one suspected at Libertyville High and in Lake Zurich.

                LAKE COUNTY, IL - Health officials in Lake County are keeping a close eye on the rising number of mumps cases being reported among its residents.

                The Lake County Health Department has confirmed a third case of mumps in the Barrington community, said Leslie Piotrowski, spokeswoman for the Lake County Department of Health, in an e-mail. The first two cases were a student and an employee at Barrington High and the third case is an adult from Barrington who has no known ties to Barrington Area Unit School District 220, according to the Daily Herald.

                There are also currently three probable and 16 suspected cases at Barrington High, one probable and three suspected at Station Middle School and five suspected cases at Prairie Middle School...

                  Public health officials recently confirmed an additional case of mumps at Barrington High School and another case at Daniel Wright Junior High School in Lincolnshire, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Lake County to six.

                  Officials with the Lake County Health Department said Tuesday they expect the number of confirmed cases to increase in the weeks ahead, roughly 15 days after the first mumps case was confirmed at Barrington High School on Feb. 28.

                  "We are predicting the numbers to continue to rise due to the long incubation period of mumps," said Leslie Piotrowski, spokeswoman for Lake County Health Department...

                      A case of mumps has been confirmed in South Elgin's Kenyon Woods Middle School.

                      Both School District U46 and the Kane County Department of Health officials confirmed the first case of the highly contagious disease in the large school district.

                      Mary Fergus, U46 spokeswoman, said the county notified U46 about the case Friday afternoon. The school alerted Kenyon Woods parents and guardians via text, phone and email at about 5 p.m., she said. The announcement came only hours after Kenyon Woods and U46 students went on spring break for the following week. Classes resume April 3...
