      Mumps has spread and health officials urge immunization. The Washington State Department of Health reminds people across the state to take precautions to help stop the spread of mumps.
      It?s especially important for you to take precautions during winter holiday social gatherings. Avoid kissing, hugging and other close contact with anyone who is suspected of having mumps. If you have been exposed to mumps and feel ill, stay home to help prevent the spread of the disease and contact your healthcare provider. If you don?t have a healthcare provider, call your local health department or the Family Health Hotline at 1-800-322-2588.

          Health officials: 10 cases of mumps in Skagit County

          MOUNT VERNON, Wash. ? Health officials have in Skagit County say they have identified ten cases of mumps, including five students from the Mount Vernon School District.

          Skagit County Public Health officials say there have been no reports of mumps in any other school districts in the county...

                      Mumps outbreak spreads to UW Greek system

                      Washington?s mumps outbreak, the worse this decade, has spread to the fraternities and sororities at the University of Washington.

                      The UW sent a message Wednesday to all students, faculty and staff saying that 20 cases of mumps associated with the Seattle campus have been reported. Those cases were concentrated in the Greek system, according to an email from the UW Advisory Committee on Communicable Diseases, and ?we anticipate the number of cases among UW students will increase more broadly as the outbreak continues in King County and across Washington state.?

                      The UW advised those infected, or with symptoms, to stay home...
