Health District: Number of mumps cases rises to 56 in Spokane

The Spokane Regional Health District says the number of mumps cases in Spokane County has increased from 44 to 56 as of Tuesday evening.
The Health District says its goal is to prevent the outbreak from spreading further and health district staff are grateful to numerous partners in the community who are helping to mitigate the spread of mumps...
Mumps has spread and health officials urge immunization. The Washington State Department of Health reminds people across the state to take precautions to help stop the spread of mumps.
It?s especially important for you to take precautions during winter holiday social gatherings. Avoid kissing, hugging and other close contact with anyone who is suspected of having mumps. If you have been exposed to mumps and feel ill, stay home to help prevent the spread of the disease and contact your healthcare provider. If you don?t have a healthcare provider, call your local health department or the Family Health Hotline at 1-800-322-2588.

The Spokane Regional Health District says the number of mumps cases in Spokane County has increased slightly from 59 to 62 as of Thursday evening.
The Health District says its goal is to prevent the outbreak from spreading further and health district staff are grateful to numerous partners in the community who are helping to mitigate the spread of mumps.

36 cases of mumps reported in Pierce County

Mumps has now affected students at a fifth school in Fife, bringing the number of cases in Pierce County to 36.
The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department confirmed Friday that a student at Surprise Lake Middle School has the mumps.
The student is not in school and may not return until no longer contagious.
