University of Missouri reports 31 confirmed mumps cases

COLUMBIA, Mo. ? A mumps outbreak at the University of Missouri continues to grow with 31 confirmed cases.
The university also said Wednesday that there are another 27 probable cases of people who have been in close contact with someone with confirmed mumps and have shown symptoms for at least two days. The university says it?s working with health officials to control the outbreak...

COLUMBIA - The University of Missouri Student Health Center announced Wednesday it has identified 193 confirmed and probable mumps cases since the beginning of the fall 2016 semester. The Student Health Center said it recommends MU students get a third MMR vaccine.

Since the beginning of the Fall Semester in August, 228 cases of mumps have been identified (both confirmed and probable) in Mizzou students, according to the University of Missouri Student Health Center (SHC).
Most of the students are reporting associations with friends who have mumps, Greek organizations, or interactions in local bars...

...The University's student health center put out an update stating that since the beginning of the fall semester, there have been 265 cases identified. That's 37 more than last week.
Despite the rising number, at least 94% of those cases were considered recovered and are no longer infectious...
Mumps health alert for students and recent visitors to Columbia

ATTENTION: Expanding the attempt to control the mumps outbreak, we are now recommending MU students obtain a 3rd Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR) vaccine, based on discussions with public health officials and consistent with guidance from The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Contact the MU Student Health Center or your home physician to schedule an appointment for the vaccine.

On December 20, Southeast Missouri State University was notified of two unconfirmed reports of students infected with mumps.
According to the university, both students left campus and returned home to self-quarantine. Other Southeast students were notified of these cases via email...
