    Harvard mumps outbreak now 59 cases

    The mumps outbreak on the Harvard University campus has reached 59 confirmed cases as of Thursday, May 12, according to Cambridge public health officials. The cases include current Harvard students, faculty, and staff.

    The contagious viral outbreak has caused concern with school officials, particularly with Commencement activities and those studying abroad this summer...

      Student held in isolation

      FRAMINGHAM, Mass. ?A Framingham State University student has tested positive for mumps, university officials said.

      The student was housed in an isolation room on campus as a precaution, immediately after being seen at the university health center while awaiting test results.

      The student remained in isolation for five days to comply with Department of Public Health guidelines.

      University officials said the student was immunized with two doses of the MMR vaccine, as have most students as a pre-admission requirement...

        Mumps outbreak infects 9 at Tufts

        Nine students at the Tufts Somerville/Medford campus have been diagnosed with mumps, a university official confirmed Wednesday.

        Students are required to be vaccinated against the disease ? which causes fever, headaches and painful swelling of the salivary glands ? before matriculating, but campus health officials warned it is still possible for them to contract the virus...

          Four Harvard students diagnosed with mumps

          Harvard University is encouraging students to take health precautions after several cases of mumps were reported.

          As of Wednesday, Harvard University has confirmed four cases of mumps this fall, Paul J. Barreira, the director of university?s Health Services said in a statement.

          Barreira said Harvard is working with state and local public health officials to investigate whether the cases are connected to an outbreak on campus during the spring semester, when more than 40 people were diagnosed with mumps...
