    2 mumps cases confirmed at IU Bloomington

    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) ? Indiana University is investigating two confirmed cases of mumps on the Bloomington campus.

    Officials say the cases were identified two weeks apart. They say there?s no connection between the two cases at this time.

    IU is working with the Monroe County Health Department and the Indiana State Department of Health on identifying and notifying anyone who may have been in close contact with the students. They?re also working to prevent additional transmission of the illness...

        INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 19, 2016) ? Fourteen mumps cases have been reported at Indiana universities as officials try to contain the spread of the illness.

        On Friday, Butler University confirmed nine students had come down with the illness after previously reporting three last week. Indiana University in Bloomington confirmed two additional cases of mumps, bringing its total to four cases. The university previously reported a pair of cases on Feb. 10.

        On Thursday, students, faculty and staff at IUPUI were alerted via email about a single case there...

            INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Mar. 11, 2016)? State employees at the Government Center campus in downtown Indianapolis are being asked to keep an eye on how they?re feeling after a worker at the facility got the mumps. New cases were also confirmed Friday at several Indiana universities.

            Several universities in Indiana are dealing with mumps outbreaks. The latest counts put Indiana University at 12 confirmed cases and Butler University at 21. IUPUI now has three confirmed cases.

              The number of cases jumped from four to 14 in the past month.
              Three schools in Indiana have announced cases of the mumps this year.


              The health department is urging people who aren't vaccinated to get the MMR vaccine.

              The number of mumps cases in Monroe County has more than tripled in the past month. The Monroe County Health Department says there are now 14 confirmed cases in the community.

              The first four cases were confined to Indiana University, but some of the recently-confirmed cases include people outside of the campus. The health department says they haven?t confirmed any links between the cases...

                Purdue University doesn't plan to close campus despite a mumps outbreak at the school.

                There were three confirmed cases of the mumps at the West Lafayette campus as of Tuesday night, which is considered an outbreak, Indiana State Department of Health spokeswoman Jennifer O'Malley said in an email. A couple of probable cases also are being investigated, she said.

                In an outbreak, people who are close contacts of those who?ve tested positive for mumps need to provide proof of immunity, O'Malley said. Those who can't provide proof will receive a letter indicating the dates during which they need to self-exclude from class, social activities and public gatherings, as well as a list of actions they can take to avoid exclusion...

                    Mumps, first reported in February on many local college campuses, has continued to spread with a total of 65 people in Central Indaina who have now been diagnosed with the highly contagious respiratory disease, state health officials say.

                    While the majority of cases have occurred on college campuses, 15 community cases, unconnected to those at college, also have been reported, the Indiana State Department of Health said Friday in a news release. There have been 24 confirmed cases at Butler University, 18 at Indiana University and four each at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and Purdue University...

                      The number of mumps cases reported in Indiana has risen to 93, with the majority of cases being reported at four major universities. Confirmed outbreaks of mumps have been reported at Indiana University in Bloomington (34), Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)(5), Purdue University in West Lafayette (11), and Butler University in Indianapolis (24).

                          Mumps Cases Continue Rising, Especially In Monroe Co.

                          The Indiana State Department of Health confirms 132 cases of the mumps virus in Indiana in 2016, as of May 20. Of those, 104 were on university campuses.

                          Indiana saw just 39 total cases in the five-year period between 2010 and 2014.

                          The Monroe County Health Department has confirmed 64 cases of mumps in the county as of May 23, with 58 on Indiana University?s campus and six in the community.

                          But IU has confirmed 64 cases among students, since a few were diagnosed off-campus when students were visiting home or traveling for spring break. That brings the total number of Monroe County cases to 70...

                            Purdue University is facing another wave of the mumps.

                            Health officials are investigating six probable cases of the infection on the West Lafayette campus, Purdue announced Thursday.

                            This is the second round of mumps cases at Purdue this spring. An outbreak also occurred on campus in April when five confirmed or probable cases were reported.

                            Purdue has had 26 confirmed cases in 2016, according to the Indiana State Department of Health...

                              The Indiana State Department of Health has confirmed outbreaks of mumps at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), Purdue University in West Lafayette, and Butler University in Indianapolis.
