Walla Walla County leads state in whooping cough rate
            By Alfred Diaz
As of Wednesday, March 25, 2015

#Walla Walla County is leading the state in per-capita cases of pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough.

#According to the Washington State Department of Health, the most recent data statewide shows the county with an average 36.9 cases per 100,000 residents. The second highest is Kitsap County with 29.9 cases per 100,000.

#Walla Walla?s county rate is based on the 22 cases that were reported as of March 15. That number will most likely double for the next state report because the most recent countywide count is 47 cases, said Harvey Crowder, director of Walla Walla County Department of Community Health...

Pregnant women urged to get pertussis vaccine
              Apr 20, 2015

In a trend consistent with information released by the Washington State Department of Health, the number of whooping cough (pertussis) cases in Snohomish County is increasing, the Snohomish Health District reports.

Since January, there have been 40 confirmed cases, most of which have been in the last few weeks. This compares to just 57 and 23 cases in all of 2013 and 2014, respectively...

...Of the 40 cases in Snohomish County, nearly three-quarters have been students between the ages of 6 and 18.This is not surprising, said the health district, given the close quarters students keep during the school day.

?We are seeing an explosion of pertussis cases statewide and locally,? said Dr. Gary Goldbaum, the health district?s officer and director...

Whooping cough is continuing to rise in Washington state, particularly among babies too young for vaccination and teens with waning protection, health officials reported Tuesday.

As of April 25, there were 387 cases of pertussis, also known as whooping cough, in Washington, compared with 85 reported cases at the same time last year. Twenty-five of those cases were in babies younger than 1. Of those, six babies were hospitalized, including five aged 3 months or younger...

Jefferson County whooping cough cases climb to 20
                  By James Casey
                  Peninsula Daily News

Clallam County has escaped the whooping cough epidemic reported in Washington state so far, while cases in Jefferson County had climbed to 20 last week from the 17 reported April 16, health authorities in each county said.

Jefferson's figure exceeds the 13 cases reported by the state Department of Health because they may have been diagnosed early before a full two weeks of coughing, according to Denis Langlois, Jefferson Public Health spokesman.

Kitsap County topped the state count of cases with 85 as of last week.

That number of cases equaled the entire state's total for 2014, according to The Associated Press.

This year, whooping cough is at epidemic proportions statewide.

Statewide cases of pertussis ? better known as whooping cough for its trademark severe symptom ? totaled 387 as of Tuesday, the latest date reported...

Clark County is still in the midst of a whooping cough outbreak, even as case numbers dip while students are on summer break.

Clark County is still in the midst of a whooping cough outbreak, and health officials are hoping the new school year won?t mean even more diagnoses.

Through Sept. 24, Clark County Public Health has recorded 319 cases of whooping cough, or pertussis, compared with just 34 cases during the same time period last year.

?This is almost a tenfold increase from last year, so we are definitely in an outbreak situation,? Derel Glashower, a public health epidemiologist, told the county board of health this week.

The county?s whooping cough numbers are mirroring those of 2012, when more than 5,000 people were sickened statewide. During the same time period in 2012, Clark County recorded 336 cases of whooping cough...
