    Minn. teens diagnosed with whooping cough

    DULUTH, Minn. ? Six Ashland, Minn., teenagers have been diagnosed with pertussis ? a.k.a. whooping cough ? within the past couple of weeks.

    Cyndi Zach, Ashland County?s interim health director, said all six are students in the Ashland schools, and all had been vaccinated for the disease...

    Whooping cough, also known as Pertussis, is a rare infection that's now making a comeback. "In Minnesota we are seeing over 1,100 cases each year," says Dr. Linda Van Etta, an Infectious Disease Consultant at St. Luke's.

    The Minnesota Department of Health says there were 33 confirmed cases in Northeastern Minnesota in 2011. St. Louis County had the highest number at 29. "Over the last decade or two, we've seen a resurgence in cases," says Van Etta. "That's a concern..."
