    MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday said the country has recorded a 169 percent increase in cases of mosquito-borne chikungunya fever during the first five months of the year.

    According to the agency, 43 chikungunya cases were reported from January 1 to May 21 – higher than the 16 cases reported in the same period last year.

    Chikungunya cases on the rise

    ASIDE from dengue cases, another vector-borne disease is also on the rise in the country.

    Based on the latest disease surveillance report, the Department of Health (DOH) reported that 318 chikungunya cases were reported from the period of January 1 to July 23, 2022.

    This was 389-percent higher than the 65 cases during the same period in 2021.

    Calabarzon had the highest number of chikungunya cases with 102.

    Also recording high numbers were Central Visayas with 55 cases, Western Visayas with 50 cases and Davao Region with 50 cases...
