    5 villagers in Armenia diagnosed with anthrax

    YEREVAN, AUGUST 20, ARMENPRESS. Five people from Armenia?s Gegharkunik Province have been diagnosed with anthrax, the Ministry of Healthcare said in a news release.

    According to the healthcare ministry two villagers from Geghhovit (Martuni region, Gegharkunik) sought medical treatment in the local hospital for what appeared to be the skin form of anthrax. The patients told the medics that few days earlier they?ve slaughtered cattle in the village.

    Experts from the Healthcare Ministry?s National Center for Disease Control and Prevention were dispatched to the village to find out how and where the disease was contracted.

    During the visit another 6 people were suspected in having contracted the disease. 5 were sent to the Nork Infectious Diseases Hospital in Yerevan for a confirmation. All were confirmed to have anthrax...

      Source of anthrax infection in Armenia's Gegharkunik found out

      Specialists at the Armenian Food Safety Agency have found out the source of anthrax infection in Geghovit village of Armenia's Gegharkunik province, according to the press office of the agency.

      It was reported two days earlier that two residents of Geghhovit village in Gegharkunik province with wounds on their hands and wrists, believed to have been caused by anthrax, sought for medical help from Martuni Medical Center, the Armenian Ministry of Health reported. It said a few days earlier the residents had helped a villager to a butch and cut the latter's cow.

      The ministry said it dispatched specialists from the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention to Geghhovit community to find out whether there was a link between the butchering and the wounds.

      It said a joint inspection carried out with local health authorities revealed 6 more people with similar wounds and complaints. Five of them were taken to Nork Infectious Disease Hospital in Yerevan for clinical examination...

        Anthrax recorded in Armenia village

        YEREVAN. ? Anthrax has been recorded in a village in Armenia.

        The Ministry of Health has received information that two residents of Getashen rural community of Armavir Province were transferred to capital city Yerevan infection hospital, and with boil-like wounds (cutaneous anthrax symptoms) on their fingers and wrists, the ministry informed.

        The patients informed that a few days earlier, they had taken part in the skinning of the cow of a fellow villager, and the processing of the meat of this cow.

        Six more fellow villagers were found with complaints characteristic of cutaneous anthrax. All were referred to the Yerevan infection hospital for clinical evaluation...
