  • Peruvian regions declared in a phytosanitary emergency

Six important Peruvian regions were declared in a phytosanitary emergency Tuesday, because of being affected by a plague of rodents devastating their cultivations. The measure was adopted by the National Sanitation Service (SENASA) Tuesday, to be applied for three months to the regions of Lima, Ica, Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Apur?mac and Cusco. The plague has affected 33,228.2 acres of cultivations, breeding zones and wild vegetation and 148,635 settlers, with losses for 5 million dollars, and a volume of exportable production of 81.42 tons is now in risk to be lost. This plague represents great risks for food security in the affected regions, which might cause serious health problems linked to the development of diseases transmitted by rodents. SENASA reported the plague is due to climatologic disorders registered in these regions in the last years.) http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert...t=dis&lang=eng
