      Todays blog post from "Cairojack".

I know we probably sound like whiners:

?Wah. I can?t go on vacation??

while some folks are sick and hospitalized.

I would still *****, but go along with the quarantine, if it actually does any good. But it doesn?t.

Doctors from the Ministry of ?Health? come and go freely, with no masks, no gloves, nada.

So there is another disease vector.

And all the students are hanging around in the common areas. Not smart.

And some of the RA staff are wearing masks?. strung around their necks.

They have done throat swabs on every resident. I imagine if a single additional test comes back positive they are gonna lock down the entire place for at least a few more days.

Then guess what: there will be more cases! ?Gee, where are all these cases coming from.?

Good thing they are killing all the pigs.

I actually walked the perimeter of the building yesterday, testing all of the fire doors. They are all padlocked (and have been for 3 years. Another genius move).

I eye balled the fence surrounding the basketball court.

There is one section of wall that is only 4 feet high, with a 4 foot fence on top of that. If one were to get over that, one would have to balance on top of a 12 foot high wall, with broken glass embedded into the top. And then jump down from the 12 foot high wall into an alley. And hope that alley goes somewhere.

All while the guards on inside are standing around and the cops and Ministry of Health security personnel are milling about on the outside.

      I am considering it.
"The only security we have is our ability to adapt."

The English language reports indicates they showed symptoms on June 5, which means they were INFECTED after they arrived on May 28. These are local infections being spun (and not necessarily deliberately) as imports.

More swine flu at Cairo dorm

          AFP Published:Jun 09, 2009

Five new cases of swine flu infection were discovered at a Cairo campus dormitory on Tuesday, Egypt’s health minister Hatem el-Gabali told state-news agency MENA.

The American University of Cairo’s campus residence in the upscale neighbourhood of Zamelek was quarantined on Monday after two American students were found to be infected with the A(H1N1) virus.

Health workers took samples from the dormitory’s 140 residents following the outbreak and the university announced it would suspend classes until Sunday.
Gabali did not give the nationalities of the five other students found to be infected by the virus.

The latest cases bring the number of swine flu infections to eight in Egypt, where the government undertook a cull of the country’s pigs after reports of outbreaks in other countries.

The authorities have stepped up checks of travellers at airports, quarantining those suspected to be infected in makeshift centres.

If the quarantines are conducted as the depicted personal measures,
it will further disseminate the illness.

How health professionals could take so lightly the same personal measures they must suggest to the population ...

              There are no working half-quarantines.

CAIRO, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Egypt reported five more A/H1N1 flu cases at a dorm of the American University in Cairo (AUC), bringing the number of the influenza cases to eight in the country, the World Health Organization (WHO)'s Cairo-based regional office said Tuesday.

"Today (Tuesday), Egypt's health authority identified five more cases... in the AUC's dormitory," where two cases were detected a day earlier, Dr. Hassan el-Boshra, adviser for communicable disease at WHO's Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, said without elaborating.
Egypt reported Monday two A/H1N1 flu cases, both of whom were 23-year-old students coming from the United States, at the AUC's dormitory on Zamalek island in Cairo.
Both of them arrived in Cairo on May 28 and showed symptoms on June 5.
Dr. Hassan said it is "possible" that they might have spread the novel disease during the latent period.
"They might have transmitted the virus to other people in the community," he said, adding that "the possibility of more cases could not be ruled out."
The health ministry said Monday it will quarantine the dorm for seven days, which involves 110 students and 124 teachers.
On June 2, Egypt reported its first A/H1N1 influenza case, who was a 12-year-old Egyptian-American girl coming from the United States via Holland.
Egypt, the most populous Arab country that was hit hard by the fatal bird flu in 2006, decided in late April to cull all the pigs in the country to stem the highly infectious flu. Worldwide, at least 25,288 people in 73 countries have been confirmed to be infected with the A/H1N1 flu virus, the latest WHO tally shows on Monday. Updating its tally three times a week, the WHO on Monday added 14 more death cases, raising the total number to 139.

Egypt extends dorm lockdown after H1N1 spreads

                      09 Jun 2009 13:20:35 GMT

CAIRO, June 9 (Reuters) - Egypt extended a quarantine of 234 people inside a dormitory at the American University in Cairo on Tuesday, ordering them isolated for a week after five more residents tested positive for the H1N1 flu, the university said.

All those infected with the virus were U.S. citizens living in the university's multi-storey Nile island dormitory, now guarded by police wearing protective masks.

"Tests for the H1N1 flu taken from residents of the American University in Cairo dormitory have resulted in five additional confirmed cases," the university said in a letter sent to faculty members, a copy of which was obtained by Reuters.

"On the basis of the new cases, the quarantine for the dormitory has been extended until June 15th," the letter said.

Egypt ordered a 24-hour quarantine of the dormitory, which houses mainly foreign students and faculty, on Monday after two students who recently arrived from the United States tested positive for the virus after falling ill.
The university said none of the group of five new cases -- four students and a staff member -- had exhibited any flu symptoms. They were removed from the dormitory and are being treated in hospital.

Egypt, hard hit by the more deadly H5N1 bird flu virus, detected its first H1N1 case last week in a 12-year-old American girl who arrived for a holiday in the most populous Arab country.
