Abdel Rahman Shahin, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, announced on Saturday [4 Dec 2010] that a 30-year-old woman in the governorate of Gharbia passed away from bird flu. Hers is the 37th death from bird flu in Egypt since the disease 1st appeared in 2006. It is also the 10th bird flu fatality to occur in Egypt in 2010.

These recent deaths will increase the current tally of cases, a situation that warrants enhanced measures to contain the escalating transmission of the disease.
