    Ministry of Health announced the death of a new case of avian flu this morning, Wednesday, March 10th, 2010 for the old lady (20 years) from the Cairo governorate following the coming into contact with dead birds suspected of being infected with the virus.

    This brings the total number of deaths in Egypt 32 cases, as confirmed by the Ministry of Health in its official statement this morning since the emergence of the disease in 2006 so far.

    This is probably one of the new cases announced today (#105, #106).

      I agree, as one of these two cases numbers will be assigned as a positive case for the governorate of Cairo.which now indicates five positive cases for Cairo since 2006. deaths Thur the 8th of march remain at 17, recovered cases also remained the same at 56 cases total for the Cairo governorate.

      both of the recent cases were in the hospital since the 7th of march the onset date for illness would therefore be even earlier.

          Bird Flu Death Toll Rises To 32


          A 20-year-old woman died of bird flu in Cairo governorate, Health Ministry reported on 10/3/2010, bringing the number of fatalities of the H5N1 virus to 32.

          She has contracted the avian flu following coming in direct contact with infected birds in her house, the ministry reported.

          The avian flu was first detected in Egypt in 2006.

            mohp has released a report for the 10th March 2010

            the total suspect cases is listed as 11,524 since 2006 no new suspect cases were added for the tenth.

            the positive cumulative case total remains 106 through the tenth.
            total deaths since 2006 are 32
            total recoverd case since 2006 are 73
            total cases within the hospital is 1

            the governorate of cairo now list a total of 18 deaths

            I have not found any information to date which can pin down the case number

              Avian influenza - situation in Egypt - update 32

              12 March 2010 -- The Ministry of Health of Egypt has announced two new cases of human H5N1 avian influenza infection.



              The first case is a 20 year-old pregnant female from El Khanka district, Qaliobia Governorate. She was hospitalized on 5 March where she received oseltamivir treatment and died on 9 March.

              The second case is a 1 and a half year-old male from Elhamool district, Kfr Elsheikh Governorate. He was hospitalized on 2 March, where he received oseltamivir treatment. He is in a stable condition.


              Investigations into the source of infection indicated that the two cases had exposure to sick and dead poultry.



              The cases were confirmed by the Egyptian Central Public Health Laboratories, a National Influenza Center of the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance Network (GISN).



              Egyptian authorities have also reported the death of a previously announced case; the 53 year-old male from Shobra Elkhima district, Qaliobia Governorate who developed symptoms on 27 February.



              Of the 106 laboratory confirmed cases of Avian influenza A(H5N1) reported in Egypt, 32 have been fatal.
