    [This is Case #90]

    As Dr. Sharif Hammouda Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, it was the result of samples of Mary Bishai (21 years), from street wisdom Tanta their first positive bird flu, has been detained Tanta Fever Hospital, showing the slaughter of birds infected with avian flu. Was immediately set up a committee to pass on the Block and the execution of live birds in the region, samples were taken from all contact them and alert them to go to the nearest hospital or viruses released at the emergence of any symptoms to them.

    • Event summary: Woman, 21 years old, began experiencing symptoms of fever and cough on 15 December 2009. She was admitted to Tanta Fever Hospital where she received oseltamivir treatment on the same day. She is in a stable condition. Investigation revealed that the case had close contact with dead poultry and was involved in slaughtering sick birds. The case was confirmed by the Egyptian Central Public Health Laboratories, a National Influenza Center of the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance Network (GISN). The MOH reported this was the 90th case of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Egypt.
