Between 9 and 16 May 2016, 10 highly pathogenic avian influenza [HPAI] H5N1 outbreaks were observed in 6 Egyptian governorates, with 2 outbreaks each in Fayoum, Menia, Qena, and Assiut, and a single outbreak each in Beni Suef and Gharbia. All were reported within 48 hours and laboratory confirmed within 24 hours through reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction [RT-PCR].
