I haven't seen any results of the WHO investigation scheduled for early May, other than here. That article seems to credit good monitoring as the reason for keeping the cases mild. Have I missed a WHO report?

What is the latest FT-concensus for this trend?

WHO went to Egypt and was going to help them. I think the current confirmed case count is a result of better testing.

I would also like to add that Egypt has run short of money to vaccinate poultry.

And - if this is case count is occurring in Egypt, what is happening in Indonesia?

AlaskaDenise, I know that the current vaccine for the poultry is ineffective. I would like to know, when approximately the suspected and confirmed cases, came to a halt in the last 2-3 years...I believe they dried up around May? If so, this is a little concerning. Laidback Al made a post regarding this somewhere on FT's. And I agree. We are all looking for H1N1.
                          We should not forget H5N1.

The pattern of human H5N1 infections in Egypt from 2006 to 2008 followed the pattern of seasonal influenza in the northern hemisphere. The frequency of confirmed human cases in Egypt would begin to rise starting in Sept-Oct and taper off by about April or May. The pattern of human infections of H5N1 in Egypt is very different this year.

The last confirmed case in the 2007-2008 flu season was in April of 2008. It was not until December of 2008 that the next human case was confirmed in Egypt for the 2008-2009 flu season. Instead of tapering off by now, we are actually seeing an increase in the number of confirmed cases over the past 60 days. The increasing infection rate in the off season for H5N1 in Egypt seems to be paralleling the off season increasing infection rate for the novel A(H1N1) that is spreading around the world.

I doubt it. If they wanted better testing, they would test those without a poultry link. The more cases are due to widepsread infections and protective immunity in older residents.

The fact that all patients are five or younger indicates the testing is abysmal (and what would WHO do with widespread mild H5N1)?.
